patersonwife.jpgGov. David Paterson and his wife, Michelle, earned $269,815 in 2007, according to their tax returns released this afternoon.

Paterson, then serving as lieutenant governor, earned $144, 170 and Michelle earned $115,538 as an executive at the Health Plan of New York.

Aides couldn’t immediately explain why Paterson’s salary was less than the $151,500 he made as lieutenant governor. The couple also claimed $6,000 in income from the National Urban Tech Center, yet aides didn’t provide an explanation of the income. The center helps underprivileged youth.

The couple paid $57,562 in federal taxes and about $17,000 in state taxes.

They had to pay $591 in federal taxes, yet received a state refund of $4,386.

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli also released his tax returns. He made total income of $143,027.
