A new Quinnipiac poll of New York voters out today says it’s the economy that’s driving voters’ choices. Just 21 percent of voters say New York State’s economy is “excellent” or “good,” while 78 percent say the economy is “not so good” or “poor.”
Some 44 percent of those surveyed called it the most important issue in their choice, while 24 percent said the war in Iraq and 12 percent said health care.
Half say the U.S. should set a timetable for withdrawing troops from Iraq. And 70 percent in this Democratic-leaning state say it’s the government that should make sure everyone in the country has adequate health care.
In presidential matchups, Sen. Hillary Clinton would beat Arizona Sen. John McCain, the likely Republican nominee, 49 – 37 percent. Illinois Sen. Barack Obama leads Sen. McCain 47 – 39 percent.
The poll has a margin of error of +/- 2.8 percentage points.

Its extremely telling that even in new york state
only half the voters think its wise to have a timetable
for withdrawal…both democrats have been harping on
the idea..and regardless of how you view the war
and whether we should have gone out, it is reckless
to committ to any timetable in advance of knowing
what the effects on the situation on the ground
would be….so even in new york Obama beats
McCain by only 6 points with 14% unaccounted for
outside the margin of error but not a good
sign for Obama
