DiBattista to run for Putnam Legislature

April
23

Carmel Councilman Carmine DiBattista won the endorsement of the Carmel Republican Committee in his bid for the Putnam County Legislature seat held by Robert McGuigan, R-Mahopac.

McGuigan, a legislator since 1997, has announced he will not seek reelection.

“Just as I worked as part of the group on the Town Board to resolve long standing issues, I can work, using my skills and knowledge, collectively with the other members of the Putnam County Board of Legislators and the administration to address the major issues facing our County government,” DiBattista said.

His campaign will focus on taxes, DiBattista said.

“The majority of taxpayers in this County have no idea what County government does let alone watching their County taxes go up by at least 20 percent each year,” he said. “Taxpayers feel powerless and they are tired of hearing about raising taxes when they can barely afford the taxes that they pay now. We have to stop balancing the books on the backs of taxpayers. We have to look at other means of raising capital to operate county government.”

Among his qualifications, DiBattista cites 31 years of experience dealing in local, county and state government labor issues and a Masters Degree in Public Administration. For the last 6 years, he has worked as a successful entrepreneur, he said.

What a wonderful resfreshing bit of good news, Carmine has many years of governmental experiensce and will do well as as county legislator. I look forward to working with him on issues that inpact our county.

Carmine is a well respected union leader from Westchester County who always knew how to make things happen for his members while still maintaining the respect of the elected officials he negotiated with. I have watched as Carmine negotiated with Governors, the NY State Senate, the NYS Assemblyman, County Executives and other important elected officials, I believe Carmine’s extensive knowledge of Albany and his effective lobbying abilities would make him a tremendous asset to the residents of Putnam County. I will be supporting and working hard to help get Carmine elected. Carmine has a Master Degree and is well versed in many aspects of life and that experience will benefit all of us. We need a person who understands how the process works outside of local politics, with Carmine’s relationships in Albany he will serve as a tremendous liaison between Putnam County and the NYS legislature.

    Mr. Buckley,

Your friend DiBattista has no idea how to talk to people. All one has to do is turn on the TV and see him berate several members of the audience becuase they have the temerity to question the facts. It is his job to reach a consensus, not the job of those in the audience, and he failed miserably in doing so. If he can’t handle working on the Town Board, how in the world is he going to handle himself when the issues are far bigger, and he has to work together? He has done things that are clearly wrong, yet instead of simply admitting his mistakes, he went on the attack versus members of the audience who discovered the misconduct. That’s unprofessional and unethical. He was caught red-handed, plain and simple. And found guilty by the Board of Ethics, I might add. Instead of simply admitting it and movng on, he screamed and screamed and screamed. I guess you didn’t watch that part of the TV broadcast. I’m sorry, I cannot bring myself to vote for this man nor support him in any way.

    NO WAY!
Anybody who has attended a Carmel Town Board meeting has clearly seen Mr. DiBattista in action. This man is evil and he takes out his frustrations on members of the audience, taxpayers. I’ll do everything in my power to undermine his bid for a County Legislator position. Robert McGuigan missed many meetings, but he was probably a better man for the job!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, Carmine speaks from the heart and he does not bite his tongue when he has something to say on an issue. I would much rather have a straight forward elected councilman or legislator then someone who is phony and only tells you what you want to hear. Carmine calls like it is and I respect him for that. Carmine is a caring man who cares about the community he represents, sometimes the truth hurts and people do not always want to hear the truth. Carmine has an extensive background in working in government and working with elected officials throughout the state, there is no question in my mind that he would be a tremendous attribute to Putnam County if elected County legislator.
