Huckabee says Democrats are helping McCain

Before his speech at Iona College tonight, former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee told The Journal News and other media outlets that the big winner of the Pennsylvania primary was John McCain.
“If you’re a Republican you always want the Democrats to open their own can of smell on each other, so you don’t have to,†Huckabee said. “Then all you have to do is remind the voters what they themselves brought out…It’s great for John McCain.â€
Huckabee also sidestepped multiple questions about his interest in becoming McCain’s running mate, saying it was McCain’s decision to make.
“It’s a job nobody ever says they want, but nobody ever turns down,†Huckabee said about being vice president.
During his speech, Huckabee warned against what he sees as a growing movement, especially in the Republican party, to separate social policy from economic conservatism.
A breakdown in the social fabric, he said, leads to increased crime, poverty and declining public health. All of which makes government more costly and economies less productive.
“A democracy cannot function within a moral vacuum,†Huckabee told the audience.

McCain/Huckabee’08…..priceless!!!!!!
A U.S. News report released on April 16, 2008 puts Ronald Reagan, Teddy Roosevelt and Mike Huckabee on the same level.
“John McCain’s big economic speech today was sort of one part Ronald Reagan (cut taxes, cut spending), one part Mike Huckabee (help for workers; Main Street is as important as Wall Street), and one part Teddy Roosevelt (criticism of “reckless CEOs and speculators”).
Huckabee’s rapid rise in the Presidential race is capturing the hearts and minds millions of ordinary people all around America.
To be achieve this prestigous level so soon with history’s greatest U.S. Presidents in such a remarkable short time period is an outstanding accomplishment for Mike Huckabee.
The alliance between McCain and Huckabee 08 ticket has offically begun. Huckabee’s new PAC web site to promote McCain. And McCain calling Wall Street “greedy”, was Mike’s central theme of those on Main Street vs Wall Street.
The alliance between these two Honorable men started back in December when they worked together to force Romney out of the picture.
McCain will be announcing Huckabee as his VP running mate in the next few months. With McCain’s military background, he holds dear to the code of Honor and Integrity which Huckabee displayed during the campaigns.
The alliance between these two men started well before the campaign last year. In effect, both men are related. Mike Huckabee’s wife Janet’s maiden name is also McCain. During the campaign match one saw many compliments of each other going back and forth during the debates. Look for the McCain Huckabee ticket to officially start by start of summer.
A couple of days ago I suggested an 8 or 9 point Hillary win in Pa. would be just perfect—not too big, not too small. In the right range to keep the mayhem going. It was a 9.3 point win, and the mayhem is continuing.
There is absolutlely no way mike huckabee will be
the vice presidential candidate.there is no need
to molify the hard social right with someone who
alienates all the centrist voters McCain is currently
able to attract..look for Mitt Romney, or Charlie Crist
of FLorida…Romney delivers conservatives, he’s younger
an economic expert and has the money to supplement what
McCain cannot raise..
The Consultant is correct. Huckabee will not be on the ticket. He alienates rockefeller Republicans but more importantly he alienates the anti-tax wing of the Republican party as well as influential newspapers like the Wall Street Journal. I guess where I would diverge with the Consultant’s analysis is that I don’t believe Huckabee alienates “all” centrist voters. He would do really well with Reagan Democrats. He just alienates a substantial and influential block of voters that Republicans need to vote, lobby, and raise money from.
Romney would be a good pick except that some of Huckabee’s supporters, i.e. evangelical christians, including Paul Weyrich (a former Romney supporter) are lobbying heavily against him and McCain appears to harbor some resentment from the primary.
The more likely picks are Jon Huntsman. The son of a billionaire and the popular governor of Utah, who despite being a mormon chose McCain over Romney in the primary and Rob Portman, who I know nothing about other than Republicans inside the beltway like him and he is from Ohio.
Ian…the number one rule is you need to have someone
as VP who brings a state to the table…If not Romney
or Crist…(Michigan and Florida)..than it will be someone
from a battleground state
Like John Edwards who was supposed to put North Carolina and other southern states in play? The truth be told the last time a VP won or even put in a state for play that the Presidential candidate would not have otherwise won was 1960 when LBJ won Texas for Kennedy.
You don’t need to put a state into play or even have regional balance i.e. Clinton/Gore. You need someone who can help the ticket by doing well in debates, raising money, and generally just being popular with the American people. It is also advisable that the candidate not have an agenda that diverges too much from the presidential candidate for governing purposes (less about getting elected).
In a close election, McCain wins Florida. He does not need Crist to win Florida. Romney can’t win Michigan, a state he hasn’t lived in since he was in high school, for McCain. If he could, he would be on the ticket. At best, he might help marginally.
Moreover, most elections (the past two notwithstanding) do not come down to one or two states.
Country club Republicans will not sell this year – as evidenced by the large dollar amounts Gov. Romney spent gaining so little for it. His negatives were the highest among the Republican candidates.
Romney was a liberal rated as the 7th most liberal Republican elected officer holder in the U.S. by Human Events in 2005. Yet, he tried to run as a conservative.
MCain needs a main-street Rebulican Conservative preferrable an evangelical for VP. There are several he could pick.
Rev. Jeremiah Wright is back! Talk about helping McCain. Wright is on PBS with left-winger Bill Moyers tomorrow night, and paints himself a victim of the media, etc.
But he also says that Obama said what he did about him because “he’s a politician.” Uh, oh.
Wright is also speaking to the National Press Club Monday about “African-American Theology.” Fun and games for sure.
Obama himself must be jittery after Pennsylvania. After two years of ducking, he’s appearing on Fox News Sunday to be interviewed by Chris Wallace. That could be fun, too.
Let’s hope we keep hearing lots more from Rev. Wright straight through November. Apparently he doesn’t know that when you find yourself in a hole, the first thing you do is stop digging.
Maybe he’s not smart enough to know he’s in a hole, or that he has Barry in one with him.
When megalomaniacal racist demagogues of the “cloth” find themselves in a hole, they somehow manage to have it filled-in with other people’s money instead of leaves, and from atop this (tax-exempt), compacted pile, continue to harangue and harass with impunity.
A 10,000 square-foot mansion under construction, near a golf course, in a rich white neighborhood. And a $10 million line of credit to go along with the house. That’s what Wright has waiting for him, all through his church.
America is such a hateful place.
I don’t know what ‘The Consultant’ is talking about. Huckabee has a much higher likability rating than Romney. He is closer to the concerns of most Americans, which is really how we should define ‘moderate’ or ‘centrist’ opinions. Unfortunately, the news media typically defines ‘centrist’ as moderately libertarian- pro-free trade and socially liberal, because that is the centre of opinion in their own social group. The opposite is true of the population at large.
Without social conservatives and some economic populists, McCain loses badly. The GOP has already lost economic competence.
Sources close to the McCain campaign are indicating Senator McCain is becoming more dependant on Governor Huckabee.
“After their meeting the other day, McCain seems eager to give Huckabee more time in the press to talk on his behalf”
Sources that can’t be named say “I think Senator McCain feels very comfortable with Governor Huckabee, I wouldn’t be suprised if he picks him as his Vice Presidential running mate.”
It’s becoming clear, McCain can use Huckabee’s articulate speaking skills to toss zingers over to the Obama Hillary campaign while McCain concentrates on raising money for his campaign.
Having a running mate who can fend off the attacks of the Obama Hillary campaign could prove to be the most valuable prize in capturing the presidency this November for him and the Republican’s.
Huckabee could turn out to be one of the most valuable players in the Republican party. With McCain’s mechanical style and Huckabee’s personal style, this could be a match made in heaven for the Republican party.
