Scenes from the Westchester GOP dinner.

April
24

Last night’s Westchester Republican Committee dinner at the Ritz Carlton in White Plains is getting positive reviews from party members.

“It was the best dinner in years,” Legislator James Maisano, a New Rochelle Republican, said in an e-mail.  “The room was packed, Ari (Fleischer) was a great speaker and there was more energy in the room than I can remember since the 1990s.”

Another source reports that Fleischer, in remarks to the crowd, took time out to recognize Rob Astorino’s presence and said he looked forward to the day when he could introduce Astorino as Westchester’s new county executive.

Other notables in the room included Ed Cox, who is the leader of John McCain’s campaign in New York, and former gubernatorial candidate John Faso.

    same ole hacks….

Bull…Doug Colety has taken the party back from the hacks and is building the party up from the grass roots level. The success of last night’s dinner has much to do with Doug’s commitment to rebuilding the party.

New Rochelle has 2 Dems for ever 1 Rep, and with Doug as GOP Chairman, New Rochelle elected 3 Republican Councilman and re-elected a Republican County Legislator, which is testament to Doug’s talent as a party leader. Doug is a genuine worker and has taken the party away from the former leaders who basically just used to party to advance themselves and their pocketbooks at the expense of the GOP. Westchester is now heavily Democratic by registration, but the Republican Party is making a comeback and the two-party system will survive here in Westchester.

Nick Spano has spent a lifetime working for the people of Westchester. If he really loves out community, he will pass the torch to someone else, and let them take on Cousins.

Nick, we love ya, but you cannot win.

You couldn’t do it as an incumbent, with all the power and resources incumbents have at their disposal. You can’t possibly win as a mere challenger.

to say that nick spano is a mere challenger is inaccurate
in every sense of the word…he lost because Iraq was on
the front pages…not because he wasn’t doing his job
he lost because everyone thought elliot spitzer was going
to be a great governor..that has all changed…and the
state senate is still a republican house..with a republican
majority..spano can recapture his old seat and make
sure yonkers gets the money it needs to keep it fiscal
house in order and keep taxes as low as possible only
nick can do that,...the recent monies from albany
were generated by the assembly democrats..andrea
had nothing whatever to do with it

  5. Gwen Dibbney

Wow! A consultant who thinks Nick should run!

    No conflict of interest there!

Gotta love that campaign gravy train!

P.S. Nick wouldn’t be a mere challenger … he’d be a loser. That’s what was on everyone’s lips at last night’s County Dinner. But as long as you get paid, who cares if it costs the Republicans their majority.

  6. Paul Revere

Cousins would be vulnerable. McCain’s strength in NY, the bitter fighting in the Democratic party on a national level, the many problems in NY State, the taxes, and more make Cousins vulnerable. But…..is Nick Spano the right guy, or just an old shoe married to a corrupt Albany?

  7. Jean DiCrescenzo

Spano can’t win…he’s too tied up with Albany nonsense.

A Republican with reform credentials could surprise Cousins.

“Doug is a genuine worker and has taken the party away from the former leaders who basically just used to party to advance themselves and their pocketbooks at the expense of the GOP.”

Really? And what about Mr. Genuine’s printing contract(s)?

  9. the consultant

nobody is paying me…particularly nick…in fact nick
has never paid me…it doesn’t change my opinion of
that race..but I suspect nick is not going to run
since it is already the end of april..

Please make no mistake Nick Spano is the only one who can beat Cousins-all of you who think differently are the same arm chair quaterbacks that talk a good game but have never walked the walk-Nick Spano will win his seat back if he chooses to run-hopefully for us he does.
