Oros seeks out Norquist in D.C.

Republican candidate for Congress George Oros announced today that he’s headed to Washington. D.C. for a meeting with one of the nation’s best-known conservative groups: Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform.
Oros, a Cortlandt Republican and minority leader of the Westchester Board of Legislators, said he will meet Wednesday with the group as well as “several Members of Congress to discuss his plan to return this Congressional District to the Republican Party.”
Support from Norquist’s group could help Oros secure the Republican/Conservative base for what’s expected to be a primary battle with rival Republican Kieran Lalor of Peekskill. The winner would take on the incumbent Democrat, Rep. John Hall, in the 19th Congressional District.
“I’ve fought this battle for the last 15 years and am proud to say that it is possible to cut spending,” Oros said in the release.

George Oros posing as a tax-cutter or a conservative, is utterly ridiculous. I am a constituent of his, and he has gone right along with one tax hike after another.
Hey Lohud—Lalor was in front of Norquist in February according to people I’ve met. And he didn’t broadcast it, which is what the confidential Wednesday meetings are all about.
And another thing, lalor signed not only the ATR pledge—months ago, when Oros was swearing himself in for a term e knew he wouldnt fulfill—but also the No Earmarks pledge. Wonder if Oros will ever sign that? Lord knows he loves living on the taxpayerss’ $$.
Isn’t that the same Grover Norquist that was supposed to have been laundering/funneling money for Jack Abramoff?
Hey, on paper, the Americans for Tax Reform mission statement sounds like a good idea. It’s only when you look at the taxes they’re actively looking to cut and reform that you realize that those reforms will only benefit really rich people and corporations.

However, if you look closer at Norquist’s efforts on behalf of radical Islamic groups, you can’t help but be bothered by the connections. Try looking up some guys like Abdurahman Alamoudi, Khaled Saffuri, Sami al-Arian, Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, and Suhail Khan. The last one is particularly interesting, since Suhail Khan’s father hosted Ayman al-Zawahiri at his mosque in California, pre-9/11, where Zawahiri did some fundraising and bought satellite phones.
Don’t you think it’s interesting that Kieran Lalor, who makes no secret of his desire to continue the War on Terror, is sucking up to a guy who is giving White House access to characters associated with known radical Islamist groups and terrorists?
Nope, Norquist has his fingers in more pies than just Lower Taxes.

According to news reports, while Norquist served as founding Chairman of the Islamic Institute the group received seed money from Abdurahman Alamoudi, then a member of the left-wing American Muslim Council. MSNBC and Fox News have aired videotapes of Alamoudi standing in front of the White House, declaring his support for Hamas and Hezbollah. Hamas is currently one of the leading groups responsible for Palestinian suicide bombers. Hezbollah, sponsored by the Iranian government, was responsible for the death of 240 Marines in Beirut in the 1980s and is believed to be responsible for the attack on Khobar Towers, a barracks in Saudi Arabia.
Key members of the Islamic Institute have come from Alamoudi’s organization. One has acknowledged making contributions to the Holy Land Foundation even after it’s U.S. offices were shut down by the U.S. government for funding terrorists.
Norquist also has ties to Sami Al-Arian, president of the National Committee to Protect Political Freedom (NCPPF). Al-Arian is under investigation by the FBI for being the leader of Palestinian Islamic Jihad and was recently exposed by Fox’s Bill O’Reilly who aired video tapes of Al-Arian raising money for terrorists. Norquist accepted an award from the NCPPF shortly before the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. During the 2000 elections, Norquist introduced Al-Arian to then candidate Bush.
Since 9/11, Norquist has led opposition to domestic anti-terrorism laws and has been quoted in frontpage NY times articles allelging a wholesale loss of faith by conservatives in Attorney General Josh Ashcroft. Norquist has also attacked Daniel Pipes, Steve Emerson, and others who have attempted to alert Americans to the dangers of Islam.

I found THIS guy to be pretty interesting…
Shaykh Hamza Yusuf. According to the Washington Post, on September 9, 2001, at a rally to support cop-killer and former American Muslim Council executive Jamil Al-Amin (a.k.a. H. Rap Brown), Shaykh Yusuf declared, “This country is facing a terrible fate…This country stands condemned. It stands condemned because of what it did – and lest people forget Europe suffered two world wars after conquering the Muslim lands.” At this same rally, the Post reported, Shaykh Yusuf lamented that Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, the blind Egyptian cleric convicted of plotting to bomb Manhattan’s Lincoln and Holland tunnels, was “unjustly tried, was condemned against any standards of justice in any legal system.”
When the FBI went to talk to him about his comments, made just 2 days before 9/11, they were astonished to find that he was not at home, but at a meeting with President Bush at the White House.

Another one of these guys, Abdullah al-Arian, was involved with Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and was escorted out of a meeting with Bush by the Secret Service. The Secret Service figured that a member of a terrorist organization probably shouldn’t be in the same room as the President. Norquist intervened, got the guy back in, and they made the Secret Service apologize.
