The soaring gas prices are the top economic concern for New Yorkers, a Siena Poll found today.
Forty-one percent of New Yorkers said gas prices are their main worry, more than higher prices for food (21%), health care (20%) or stocks (9%) and real estate (6%).
More than half (51%) of New Yorkers say current prices are causing them a financial hardship, and 69% said they are spending more on gas and 71% spending more on food.
As a result, four out of five people also say they plan to cut back on vacation spending.
Nearly three-quarters of all New Yorkers (67% of Democrats; 82% of Republicans) would support a reduction of the state’s gasoline tax despite a state budget deficit, the Siena Poll found
“Increasing prices at the pump leads most New Yorkers’ current worry list. Half see it as a hardship and of those, two-thirds say the hardship is serious,” said poll director Don Levy.
“Nearly three-quarters of low income citizens report facing financial suffering due to gas price increases, but even one fourth of New York’s wealthiest are very worried. Nearly everyone that uses a car is spending more and almost everyone is looking for ways to cut back.”

So the gas prices are the top economic concern for all New Yorkers. Lets see Joseph Bruno, James Tedisco, Elliot Engel and William Gouldman all call for something to get done. When will it happen, the common people need to know.
wont happen as long as those thieves dont have to pay for gas.
wont happen as long as those thieves dont have to pay for it.
And they DON’T have to pay for it. As for all you peons, a word from the late Marie Antoinette: “Let ‘em eat fumes.”
Oh yeah….and they don’t pay for the cars or the insurance either. The taxpayers do.
Or, as the latest straw poll stated – ‘Let ‘em eat brooms.’ Makes no sense, but what the hell.
