From Wikipedia:

Sliwa later admitted that, in order to attract favorable media attention for the Guardian Angels, he had fabricated a series of criminal incidents "that clearly had not taken place" emphasizing non-existent acts of heroism in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This included false allegations Curtis had been kidnapped by the New York Transit Police

Let me get this straight. Somebody who made false statements to get favorable attention supports Greg Ball. Hmmm... that's interesting.

And Beyond Brains continues to go nowhere near this one: WHAT HAVE YOU GUYS DONE TO IMPROVE THAT SITUATION IN BREWSTER? Please don't count those silly rallies and screaming contests and boring forums that got absolutely nothing accomplished.

Brewster looks worse now than it did two years ago. And Mr. Ball has to run on that record.

The "workstation" never existed. All your nonsense is just that: complete nonsense. The workstation was a reality just like MS-13 is in the Village, heh? Remember that fraud? Or would you rather forget that one? Yeah, scribble some nonsense like "MS-13", then claim MS-13 is in the Village, with no proof mind you (HEH!!), then take all kinds of pictures standing in front of the MS-13 scribble that your people just wrote, with mad faces on, looking like tough guys HEH!, then send out mailers pretending MS-13 is in the Village. MS-13 has as much credibility as the workstation: NONE!!!!!

Now, on for TODAY's quote of the day in the Journal News. Unlike yours, this one is real. When asked about the fact that Southeast's Republican Committee voted 37-0 against Greg Ball for re-election, Republican Chairman Tony Scannapieco had no comment. NO COMMENT!!! Does that sound like a guy who is supporting Mr. Ball?

Oh and also, I know you like to talk about that silly "OLD GUARD", which is O-L-D, but I have some news for you. There are people on the Southeast Committee who despise each other. The thought that they are voting in unison as some sort of conspiracy is laughable and is yet further poof that you guys are going into this one with your eyes closed shut.

You guys? Who are you talking about? I came here from the immigration blog, I have nothing to do with the New York Times and Eliot Spitzer.

As for #2, I voted for Assemblyman Ball last time around, and will do so again. That is more then enough credentials on alleviating the problem.

Sorry that you're too inept to read the JN yourself, here it is for you:

"State Assemblyman gets a challenger"
Marcela Rojas
May 8, 2008

Some of you may remember former Brewster Mayor John Degnan. He was narrowly defeated last year in a three-way bid for Southeast supervisor by Michael Rights, who ran a fierce campaign on the hot button issue of illegal immigration.

Rights accused Degnan of being a slumlord, renting his village apartments to illegal immigrants. His claims were never proven. He also said Degnan was distributing identification cards to illegal aliens—untrue. Degnan had invited the Guatemalan consulate to the village to discuss it’s mobile ID card service that never came to fruition given the political climate in Brewster at the time.

Lastly, Rights claimed that Degnan was putting up a hiring site for Brewster’s day laborers. Team Brewster had considered those plans but they never materialized because they could not find a proper site.

State Assemblyman Greg Ball held a “Stop the Workstation,” rally last summer even though there were no plans to put one up. Now, Degnan will have another opportunity to go head-to-head with one of the area’s toughest anti-illegal immigration politicos.

The Southeast Republican Committee endorsed Degnan this week. No word from Degnan yet but some of his closest supporters say he’s in the race for state Assembly. Ball said he welcomes the challenge.

Beyond Brains,

I'll ask again. What was the date of the article, Heh. All that stuff is not in today's JN, heh. But then again, this is coming from the same group of people, heh, that put last year's New York Times story and gave it this year's date. Oh heh, and of course they left out that part about backing Eliot Spitzer 100%, heh. I guess the explanation for that one will be that there wasn't enough room, and you had to cut a little bit out.

Heh.

Work Stations.

Slumlords.

MS-13.

You guys are funny.

Heh, it's not true, heh, but I guess you're accustomed to writing and saying things that aren't true, heh. And heh, what aboutpoint number two, heh. What have you done to alleviate this problem, heh? You went nowhere near that one, heh, and I don't blame you one bit.

Again, you guys are going to have to come up with some new stuff in 2008. The "OLD GUARD" nonsense is exactly that: OLD. Nobody has ever even defined who the "OLD GUARD" is, anyway. The stuff you used in 2006 will not work in 2008, it's a much different time, and now you will not only have to come up with new stuff, which you're telling me you haven't, but you're going to have to defend a record, something you didn't have to do in 2006. And that will hurt you in a big way.

As far as these guys not supporting him, they tolerate him because hes currently holding the seat. He is required to tolerate him. If Degnan gets the GOP nod throughout Putnam County, you will see exactly what I'm talking about.

It's obvious you guys are walking into this one with your eyes closed and your mind shut.

Putting Harpers and Stephens votes together, they still would not have beaten Ball. Degnan would need a massive trouncing of McCain by Clinton or Obama to stand a chance, assuming he could raise the money, which seems very doubtful.

Starting a race in May may have worked in the 1990s, but this is 2008. They should have learned from Ball's tactics.

Like I said before, The "Old Guard" of the Southeast Republican Committee is setting themselves up for a big fall by endorsing Defeated Brewster Mayor John Degnan for Greg Ball's Assembly seat. They have put their trust in a bitter, vindictive, revengeful political "has been" in John Degnan. It seems the Good Ol' Boys have joined forces with the Good Ol' Boy Wannabes. I can't believe Senator Libell is courting this guy.I guess the Democrats are hurting for a candidate since Kaplowitz chickened out. They'll take anybody to run in the 99th.

* If he was not a Ball supporter, he would not post on this forum in support of him, give the keynote address at the Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess kickoff events, etc.
* The "old guard" is not nonsense. As noted above, Degnan raised all his money from Stephens & Co. Stephens also led the endorsement at the Southeast Republican committee. How is that nonsense? Stop ignoring the facts.
* People are not "really asking questions". A few people working for the Old Guard are attacking veterans again, like they did in 2006. Ball enlisted in the Air Force at Age 18, and served until he was 27. He has a DD-214 and an honorable discharge, and plenty of his fellow officers and soldiers (including his old commander) who will be trotted out to verify it, just like last time.
* People need to remember, it was Stephens, the old guard & co. who started the attacks, insinuating that Ball was gay, that DD-214 stood for "dishonorable discharge", etc. Ball pointed out facts (Galante's no-bid garbage contract, Stephen's double dipping as Southeast attorney, his liberal Shelly Silver voting record) and these were called "attacks" in the face of an all out assault on Veterans. That same attack stuff didn't work last time, nor will it work for Stephens/Degnan this time out.

Wrong. Tony Scanna is not a Ball supporter, far from it. He tolerates him as County Chair, that's it. As far as this "Old Guard" nonsense, you guys have to start coming up with new stuff. This isn't 2006 anymore. That silliness won't work now. You need to talk about real accomplishments and real issues, and people are really asking the questions regarding the sudden departure from the Air Force after only three years of service after a $1 million scholarship. This is what you need to discuss, and be prepared to discuss. If not, be prepared for the worst. That same attack stuff aint gonna work this time out.

A candidate put up by John Hall and Will Stephens will be a tough sell to Democrats and Republicans outside of Southeast, where ideology is king, and not how many how many friends & family members you have on the town Republican-Conservative-Independence committees. So much for one man one vote. Can't Brewster residents also vote in Southeast elections? What's up with that?

If Degnan really did only raise $5000 from 10 people for his Supervisor race, he is clearly not a serious candidate. We don't want to continue fighting Willis Stephens battles, we want REAL CHANGE in Albany. Democrats should wait and see if a real candidate steps forward, perhaps [hopefully] Yorktown Councilman Jim Martorano.

Degnan seems to be the representative of the "Old Guard" machine that Ball defeated in the 2006 primary. The revenge of Will Stephens? Doubtful. The new Chairman in Putnam and Westchester are huge Ball supporters, the Southeast committee will likely be chastised in some way for their ceremonial decision, which has no bearing in political reality.

Now, if the Democrats hop on board, that will be a different story. It would certainly give new meaning to Ball's old Stephens-Shelly Silver mailer, no?

John Degnan has faced the barrage of garbage that Ball and his SOS Team have thrown at him last year in his race against Greg Ball’s puppet Michael rights. Ball and his SOS Team have tossed everything at Degnan except the kitchen sink, Degnan is a strong person and can handle the likes of Ball and his flunkies. There is no question the Ball will try to create drama by making up stories and distorting the facts, that is to be expected from Greg Ball. Ball is the most disingenuous elected official I have seen in my many years.

Mr. Degnan may not be the best out there , but he obviously has come forward to run against Ball. Mr. Degnan better be prepared for Ball to say all sorts of distorted things against him in this race. Ball is ruthless with no feelings for anyone else.
If the Republican Committee in Putnam has endorced Degnan and hopefull the Dutchess and Westchester will follow suit. After asking around, Ball seems to have made lots of enemies within his own party so never know what could happen.

I see the Southeast Republican Committee added "Linda Borkowski" as a Committee person. Another disingenuous move by the most disingenuous part-time judge in the history of Putnam County. Judge Borkowski sent his wife to the committee to try to drum up support for his phony run for Putnam Sheriff. Borkowski has never explained all his work at Keane & Beane and how it hurt Brewster. While completely unethical, he has already begged Tony Scannapieco for the Republican endorsement for Sheriff, he's asked the Dems and he's asked the Conservatives. From what I hear all three laughed in his face. Meanwhile, he just ran for re-election for Judge and he never said a word. The word around town is that Borkowski has been showing up to every event in Putnam, against the rules for a judge. Judges are not allowed to do that. The funniest part of Borkowski's run for sheriff, aside from the FACT that he has no police experience, is that he is a Benedict Arnold: last year, during the Lorraine Mitts campaign, he was supposed to be on Mitts' team with Leibell and McGuire and the Republican anchors, Borkowski would attend a strategy meeting with Mitts and Leibell's guys, then go running to Greg Ball and tell him everything they said. He plays both sides. Two years ago he wanted to be the County Judge, last year he claimed he always wanted to be the D.A., now he claims he wants to be the Sheriff. NO CHANCE!!!!!!! I'm back, Judge!!

Bizarrely, Degnan raised only $4,085 total in the race for town Southeast Town supervisor in 2007, according to his 32-day pre and 11-day election reports to the Board of Elections.

The money came from six individuals. Ex-assembly Willis Stephens tops the list, followed by his law partner, followed by Putnam Dem chair Lynne Eckardt, followed by Degnan's relative.

According to his 10-day post election report, from 10/24/07 to 11/06/07, Degnan managed to raise an additional $4,300 exactly from 13 individuals, although only seven of them actually resided in Brewster. Each of the seven were members of Concerned Residents of Southeast (CRSE), the same members of the Town committee which just endorsed him for Assembly.

Obviously he isn't a good fundraiser, so Degnan would need a loan from the Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee (DACC) similar to the $250k loan to the '06 assembly candidate to actually stand a chance.

Looks like ex-Assemblyman Stephens is out for some revenge, but if Degnan and his 20 supporters follows his strategy of attacking veterans and not raising money, the loan isn't going to be enough.

Hall/Kaplowitz/Degnan vs. Lalor/Liebell/Ball?

Very strange how Mr. Degnan goes straight from an event with Congressman Hall to announcing a run for State Assembly. I wonder if the Hall campaign wants to nip Ball in the bud?

Seeing as its already May, kind of doubtful that Mr. Degnan will get the signatures required to run a Republican primary. Are the Dutchess/Putnam/Westchester Democratic committees prepared to endorse him? It would not be the first time. They have run somebody, if this seat is really in play. Their best shot is probably nominating an ex-Republican a la Don Peters in Yorktown, the hardcore lefties stand no shot in the gerrymandered 99th.

UNLESS GREG BALL HAS AN UPDATE AS TO WHAT HE'S DONE TO CLEAN UP THE VILLAGE OF BREWSTER (WHICH HE PROMISED TO DO) I'M SICK OF HIS WHINING. I DON'T NEED SOME 30 YEAR OLD PUNK TELLING ME THE VILLAGE IS A MESS, WE CAN ALL SEE THAT. I JUST WANT THE VILLAGE CLEANED UP.

TRUTH IS, I DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT MY STATE ASSEMBLYMAN SAYS HE'S GOING TO DO ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. BALL PROMISED SO MUCH AND DID NOTHING! IT'S JUST NOT A STATE ISSUE.

MAYBE HE SHOULD FOCUS ON MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES LIKE TAXES AND SPENDING. HE VOTES AGAINST THE BUDGET BUT STILL TAKES $100K IN MEMBER ITEMS, HIS LITTLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE STATE DEBT...

WHAT A HYPOCRITE!

Uncle Vinnie, Slumlord Johnny? Who writes this stuff???

Anyway, that last post was just over the top. Both claims of Degnan being "ultra-liberal" and a "slumlord" were unsubstantiated lies.

The slumlord one in specific was repudiated by the Journal News and Putnam County Courier last year when it was first made by Ball & Co.

Many of Degnan's tenants including a Vietnam vet also repudiated the claim that they were living in slums or that they were not legal citizens.

How disingenous, dirty and disgusting of Ball & Co. to continue to spread this outright lie.

Im glad the Southeast Republican Party endorsed ULTRA-LIBERAL John Degnan for Assemblyman. It reveals the weakening bitterness of "Tricky Dick" Honeck and his crew. They are setting themselves up for a big collapse getting mixed up with Alleged Slumlord John Degnan. Senator Libel won't be so chummy with the defeated Brewster Mayor when the Ball starts a rollin! I'm not a big Ball fan , I voted for Willis Stephens but I will say Ball is a professional campaigner and a hard worker. He would be extremely hard to beat. He's too focused and ambitious to let Uncle Vinnie and Slumlord Johnny get in his way.

Make no mistake about, Michael Rights did not beat John Degnan, Lorraine Mitts beat him. How? When Lorraine lost in the republican primary she accepted another line and forced a three way race, Mitts, Rights and Degnan. Mitts pulled many votes away from Degnan who would have crushed Rights on a one on one race.

Degnan has faced the low life campaigning of Greg Ball and the SOS team and he will expose Ball for the phony that he is.

Degnan will be the Assemblyman from the 99th District next year.

Is this the same John Degnan who got less than 30% of the vote against a candidate who flipped his $70,000 Jaguar 6 weeks before the election? The same John Degnan who then lost again to the same DWI candidate who then had a foreclosure on his home 3 weeks before the general election? Looks like John Degnan is more pathetic than Ken Harper, Harper only got beat by a DWI candidate once...

It would be nice if a real candidate could surface to beat Ball, o well I guess we will have to see another loser get pummeled.

The same John Degnan who then lost again to the same DWI candidate who then had a foreclosure on his home 3 weeks before the general election? Looks like John Degnan is more pathetic than Ken Harper, Harper only got beat by a DWI candidate once…
