Let me get this straight. Somebody who made false statements to get favorable attention supports Greg Ball. Hmmm… that’s interesting.

Brewster looks worse now than it did two years ago. And Mr. Ball has to run on that record.

Now, on for TODAY’s quote of the day in the Journal News. Unlike yours, this one is real. When asked about the fact that Southeast’s Republican Committee voted 37-0 against Greg Ball for re-election, Republican Chairman Tony Scannapieco had no comment. NO COMMENT!!! Does that sound like a guy who is supporting Mr. Ball?

Oh and also, I know you like to talk about that silly “OLD GUARD”, which is O-L-D, but I have some news for you. There are people on the Southeast Committee who despise each other. The thought that they are voting in unison as some sort of conspiracy is laughable and is yet further poof that you guys are going into this one with your eyes closed shut.

As for #2, I voted for Assemblyman Ball last time around, and will do so again. That is more then enough credentials on alleviating the problem.

Some of you may remember former Brewster Mayor John Degnan. He was narrowly defeated last year in a three-way bid for Southeast supervisor by Michael Rights, who ran a fierce campaign on the hot button issue of illegal immigration.

Rights accused Degnan of being a slumlord, renting his village apartments to illegal immigrants. His claims were never proven. He also said Degnan was distributing identification cards to illegal aliens—untrue. Degnan had invited the Guatemalan consulate to the village to discuss it’s mobile ID card service that never came to fruition given the political climate in Brewster at the time.

Lastly, Rights claimed that Degnan was putting up a hiring site for Brewster’s day laborers. Team Brewster had considered those plans but they never materialized because they could not find a proper site.

State Assemblyman Greg Ball held a “Stop the Workstation,” rally last summer even though there were no plans to put one up. Now, Degnan will have another opportunity to go head-to-head with one of the area’s toughest anti-illegal immigration politicos.

The Southeast Republican Committee endorsed Degnan this week. No word from Degnan yet but some of his closest supporters say he’s in the race for state Assembly. Ball said he welcomes the challenge.

I’ll ask again. What was the date of the article, Heh. All that stuff is not in today’s JN, heh. But then again, this is coming from the same group of people, heh, that put last year’s New York Times story and gave it this year’s date. Oh heh, and of course they left out that part about backing Eliot Spitzer 100%, heh. I guess the explanation for that one will be that there wasn’t enough room, and you had to cut a little bit out.

As far as these guys not supporting him, they tolerate him because hes currently holding the seat. He is required to tolerate him. If Degnan gets the GOP nod throughout Putnam County, you will see exactly what I’m talking about.

Starting a race in May may have worked in the 1990s, but this is 2008. They should have learned from Ball’s tactics.

If Degnan really did only raise $5000 from 10 people for his Supervisor race, he is clearly not a serious candidate. We don’t want to continue fighting Willis Stephens battles, we want REAL CHANGE in Albany. Democrats should wait and see if a real candidate steps forward, perhaps [hopefully] Yorktown Councilman Jim Martorano.

Now, if the Democrats hop on board, that will be a different story. It would certainly give new meaning to Ball’s old Stephens-Shelly Silver mailer, no?

The money came from six individuals. Ex-assembly Willis Stephens tops the list, followed by his law partner, followed by Putnam Dem chair Lynne Eckardt, followed by Degnan’s relative.

According to his 10-day post election report, from 10/24/07 to 11/06/07, Degnan managed to raise an additional $4,300 exactly from 13 individuals, although only seven of them actually resided in Brewster. Each of the seven were members of Concerned Residents of Southeast (CRSE), the same members of the Town committee which just endorsed him for Assembly.

Obviously he isn’t a good fundraiser, so Degnan would need a loan from the Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee (DACC) similar to the $250k loan to the ‘06 assembly candidate to actually stand a chance.

Looks like ex-Assemblyman Stephens is out for some revenge, but if Degnan and his 20 supporters follows his strategy of attacking veterans and not raising money, the loan isn’t going to be enough.

Very strange how Mr. Degnan goes straight from an event with Congressman Hall to announcing a run for State Assembly. I wonder if the Hall campaign wants to nip Ball in the bud?

Seeing as its already May, kind of doubtful that Mr. Degnan will get the signatures required to run a Republican primary. Are the Dutchess/Putnam/Westchester Democratic committees prepared to endorse him? It would not be the first time. They have run somebody, if this seat is really in play. Their best shot is probably nominating an ex-Republican a la Don Peters in Yorktown, the hardcore lefties stand no shot in the gerrymandered 99th.

TRUTH IS, I DON’T CARE ABOUT WHAT MY STATE ASSEMBLYMAN SAYS HE’S GOING TO DO ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. BALL PROMISED SO MUCH AND DID NOTHING! IT’S JUST NOT A STATE ISSUE.

MAYBE HE SHOULD FOCUS ON MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES LIKE TAXES AND SPENDING. HE VOTES AGAINST THE BUDGET BUT STILL TAKES $100K IN MEMBER ITEMS, HIS LITTLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE STATE DEBT…

WHAT A HYPOCRITE!

Anyway, that last post was just over the top. Both claims of Degnan being “ultra-liberal” and a “slumlord” were unsubstantiated lies.

The slumlord one in specific was repudiated by the Journal News and Putnam County Courier last year when it was first made by Ball & Co.

Many of Degnan’s tenants including a Vietnam vet also repudiated the claim that they were living in slums or that they were not legal citizens.

How disingenous, dirty and disgusting of Ball & Co. to continue to spread this outright lie.

Degnan has faced the low life campaigning of Greg Ball and the SOS team and he will expose Ball for the phony that he is.

Degnan will be the Assemblyman from the 99th District next year.

I’d rather turn to Gambling on WOR.

It would be nice if a real candidate could surface to beat Ball, o well I guess we will have to see another loser get pummeled.
