New York’s junior senator took her campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination on the road again today while her rival met with uncommitted superdelegates by making a visit to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Members of Congress are automatic superdelegates.
According to CQ Politics, Sen. Barack Obama’s meet-and-greet on the House floor triggered some complaints from supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Harrison, did not object.
“He’s always welcome in the people’s house, but I am sure he steered clear of the Florida and Michigan delegations,” said Lowey, a congressional whip for the Clinton campaign.
It’s hard to argue with the Illinois senator’s strategy.
At this point in the campaign for the Democratic nomination, there are more uncommitted superdelegates up from grabs than there are pledged delegates to be won in the remaining primaries in West Virginia, Kentucky, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Montana and South Dakota.
It’s also less expensive to a senator to saunter over to the other side of the Capitol.
Clinton is campaigning today in West Virginia, South Dakota and Oregon.
