Chuck and Nita on Hillary

May
9

Two of Sen. Hillary Clinton’s Congressional colleagues today offered their support for her ongoing presidential campaign. Sen. Charles Schumer, speaking at an Ossining press conference, disagreed with calls from some Democratic party leaders that Clinton should drop out of the race and cede the contest to Sen. Barack Obama.

“I don’t think it’s fair to pressure her to drop out,” said Schumer. “It’s close, and I’m not going to pressure her to drop out. I don’t think it has damaged the party thus far. I think we’ll be a united party and in good shape for the election in November.”

Rep. Nita Lowey, speaking at the same conference on legislation to ban certain plastics from infant products, also spoke in favor of Clinton’s candidacy. She called Clinton “our next president.”

The above comes from my colleague, Robert Marchant.
