Clinton up 36 points in W.Va. poll

On the eve of the West Virginia presidential primary, a new poll finds Hillary Rodham Clinton leading Barack Obama by an astounding 36 points among likely Democratic voters, 60 percent to 24 percent.
Not only that, 67 percent of voters questioned by Suffolk University say Clinton should remain in the race the for Democratic presidential nomination regardless of the outcome in tomorrow’s primary. Twenty four percent think she should withdraw.
Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards remains on the ballot in West Virginia, with 4 percent of likely voters saying they still support him despite his Jan. 30 withdrawal from the race. Eight percent of voters remain undecided.
More good news for Clinton: 72 percent said she is not hurting the Democratic Party by running in the remaining primaries. After West Viriginia, only four states and Putero Rico will remain.
Reflecting the findings of the poll, Obama is largely ignoring West Virginia. He is scheduled to speak at the civic center in Charleston at noontime today, but then leaves for Kentucky and won’t return. His one other campaign appearance in the state was March 20, according to a local TV station.
Clinton, on the other hand, has a full schedule of campaigning today. She also campaigned in the state Sunday.
The Suffolk University poll was conducted May 10 and May 11, 2008. The margin of error on the statewide survey of 600 was plus or minus 4 percent.

go hillary !
Ah yes…the “hard working white american” voters of WV!
What a shining moment for our Senator.
Not!!
DON’T BE DUPED !!!
IT’S ABOUT ELECTABILITY !!!
Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses from early on. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. With Hillary Clinton you are almost 100% certain to get quality, affordable universal health care very soon.
But first, all of you have to make certain that Hillary Clinton takes the democratic nomination and then the Whitehouse. NOW! is the time. THIS! is the moment you have all been working, and waiting for. You can do this America. “Carpe diem” (harvest the day). You will have to work together on this and be aggressive, relentless, and creative. Americans face an even worse catastrophe ahead than the one you are living through now.
You see, the medical and insurance industry mostly support the republicans with the money they ripped off from you. And they don’t want you to have quality, affordable universal health care. They want to be able to continue to rip you off, and kill you and your children by continuing to deny you life saving medical care that you have already paid for. So they can continue to make more immoral profits for them-selves.
Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama’s. She also leads in the electoral college numbers that you must win to become President in the November national election. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!
As much as 30% of Obama’s primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses, and open primaries where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help. Except North Carolina where 35% of the population is African American, and approximately 90% of them block voted for him. African Americans are only approximately 17% of the general population.
Hillary Clinton has been OUT MANNED! OUT GUNNED! and OUT SPENT! 4 and 5 to 1. Yet Obama has only been able to manage a very tenuous, and questionable tie with Hillary Clinton.
If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. That is crystal clear now. Because all of the Republican vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. And the demographics, and experience are completely against him. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is.
You will have another McGovern catastrophe where George McGovern lost 49 of 50 states. And was the reason the super-delegates were created to keep that from happening again. Don’t let that happen to the party and America again super-delegates. You have the power to prevent it. The only important question now is who can best win in November. And the answer is HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON. That fact is also now crystal clear.
And YOUNG PEOPLE. DON’T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose. As do African Americans. Support Hillary Clinton. She will do her best for all of you. And she will know how to best get it done on day one.
The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. Everyone needs to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton NOW! So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.
The democratic party, and the super-delegates have a decision to make. Are the democrats, and the democratic party going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee to fight for the American people. Or are the republicans going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee through vote fraud, and gaming the DEMOCRATIC party primaries, and caucuses.
Fortunately the Clinton’s have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic, and heroic comebacks of Hillary Clinton’s. Only the Clinton’s are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen. Probably the best there has ever been. Maybe it’s time for Hillary to start thinking about switching to an INDEPENDENT run for the presidency. Wipe the slate clean. After all she is running to be the President of all the people. Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea would cream everyone. You know it’s true. :-)
“This is not a game†(Hillary Clinton)
Sincerely

p.s. I have been under heavy attacks for some time now. But it wont stop me. :-)
IT’S ABOUT ELECTABILITY !!!
MY FELLOW “BITTER”, STUPID, WORKING CLASS PEOPLE :-)
If you think like Barack Obama, that WORKING CLASS PEOPLE are just a bunch of “BITTER”!, STUPID, PEASANTS, Cash COWS!, and CANNON FODDER. :-(
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salary’s than they had ever been before or since.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)
Best regards
jacksmith… Working Class :-)
p.s. You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you don’t know that the huge amounts of money funding the Obama campaign to try and defeat Hillary Clinton is coming in from the insurance, and medical industry, that has been ripping you off, and killing you and your children. And denying you, and your loved ones the life saving medical care you needed. All just so they can make more huge immoral profits for them-selves off of your suffering…
You see, back in 1993 Hillary Clinton had the audacity, and nerve to try and get quality, affordable universal health care for everyone to prevent the suffering and needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of you each year. :-)
Approx. 100,000 of you die each year from medical accidents from a rush to profit by the insurance, and medical industry. Another 120,000 of you die each year from treatable illness that people in other developed countries don’t die from. And I could go on, and on…
OBAMA AIDE: “WORKING-CLASS VOTERS NOT KEY FOR DEMOCRATS” :o
p.s. I have been under heavy attacks for some time now. But it wont stop me. :-)
jacksmith …you have it slightly backwards…rush limbough
has made sure that Hillary clinton has benefited from
republican crossover voters..but you are right that
she does do better with white folks in states like
ohio, pa, missouri, mich, and florida..but can you prove
that those democrats will not vote for obama…after
all they are democrats..that is what hillary cannot
prove and that is why she will not be the nominee
although I personally think she is a stronger
general election candidate than obama..because democrats
cannot win unless they take the above states and although
not provable..there is some evidence that uneducated white
working males have a problem voting for a black candidate
either way I think President Mc Cain is looking pretty
good
“BS” and others criticize the white voters of W. Virginia, but they have NO problem with Obama getting about 92 percent of the black vote in the primaries. Double standard?
As for Jack Smith and his talking points, universal health care? The government can’t run anything correctly. Nothing. For just one example, been to an airport lately? And how about that ethanol fiasco? The list could go on and on and on and on.
wahoo is exactly correct..its not racist for anyone to suggest that obama is getting 90% of african american voters
who are democrats..and that without that support hillary
would have been the nominee..but its racist to point out
that hillary is getting lower end white support because
that somehow suggests that they won’t vote for obama
because he is black in november…so the clinton’s
are racist..but african americans are monolithic in
their voting patterns..sounds good to me because
any way you slice it those independents who remain
in neither party and who will determine the election
are looking at the democrats slice each other to bits
and saying to themselves…I think we can take
four years of John McCain rather than take a chance
on democrats neither of whom can’t even get through a primary season without insulting and alienating the
other half of their party
Obama is a great speaker and an incredibly intelligent person. He is talented and well intentioned, in general.
The problem with Obama is not his race, thank God. This country has grown so much in the last 50 years that this is not the problem it once was.
Sure many African Americans want to vote for the first black President, so did many Irish Americans in 1960 and so did many Italian Americans when Mario Cuomo ran for Governor. That is not a big deal as some will oppose these candidates for race, so it’s a wash in the votes, and frankly those who support “their own†are much more moral than those who oppose based on race so that is just not a big deal. Of course ignoring race entirely is the best policy.
The problem is the Democratic Party’s constant mistake in nominating the most leftist leader they can find. This is why they keep running off the cliff.
The country was mistaken with Carter; it felt he was a conservative Southerner in the spirit of Sam Nunn. When the country learned what Carter was about he was thrown to the curb. (I never voted for that idiot).
The country saw Clinton as a middle of the road person and they were right. I was proud to vote for him twice. Hillary is also much more middle of the road than Obama.
In 1972 McGovern was nominated because he was the most leftist. NIXON wiped him.
Mondale was nominated because he was the most leftist running. He got creamed.
Dukakis was then nominated because he was the most leftist. He got slapped around.
Gore was the most left wing candidate and he was beaten by a moron with no experience.
Kerry was the most left wing and he got beaten by a failed moron with bad experiences.
Obama is too damn liberal and he is now opposing a liberal Republican. (Yea, I get it the war is the albatross around McCain’s’ neck. That could bring him down.) With no war McCain would get 50 of 50 states. With the war he will simply win.
This country is not socialist and we don’t want to be. The democrats who attend these nominating conventions are so out of tune those always have that surprised look on their faces as they go over the cliff. I always wonder why it surprises them.
Oh well, here we go again. I am willing to play, but please, no surprised look. Please.
All of what you say is true..but the average democrat
voter in west virginia for example wouldn’t know
a liberal from a libertarian….its about race sorry
to say..you may not like it…neither do I ..but in
American only 28% have graduated high school and the
less educated you are the more you carry bigotry
passed on from your parents generation…and that is
what the clinton’s understand..it won’t do them any
good but facts are facts…white working class voters
have a problem voting for a black man..
Nonaubiz – Pretty much on the mark, but “incredibly intelligent?” In what specific?
Consultant, Sometimes you should just say nothing. Because sometimes what you do say just gets you in deep whatever. There is an “elitist” streak you occasionally reveal that is somewhat disconcerting, to put it politely.
I agree with Sara’s comments. I also agree with Ed. While I think Obama is bright, I also think he’s more slick than “incredibly intelligent.”
There is an interesting op-ed about him in today’s NY Times. If it isn’t disinformation, it is disturbing.
Mr. Incredibly Intelligent doesn’t know how many states there are in the US. As he said in Beaverton, OR:
“It is wonderful to be back in Oregon. Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it.”
Makes Dan Quayle’s “potatoe” mistake seem pretty petty, doesn’t it? Then how come the media isn’t pouncing on Obama like they did Quayle?
Oh, I forgot; Obama is the media’s darling; Quayle was a Republican candidate.
My mistake. I meant to say I agree with Nonaubiz. And now I agree with Sara too. I heard there were 57 Islamic states. Is that true? 57 Heinz varieties doesn’t count. That was the 2004 election.
Maybe he’s been in 57 Hyatts. Or else, as Wahoo opines, he is thinking of the catsup brought to you by the woman known to Kerry’s kids as “Stepmoney.”
You might be an idiot if you have bothered to read any post by jacksmith after his first.
The reason I think that Obama is incredible intelligent is not something I can point out specifics to unless I could rerun some of the debates, interviews and answers to voters. I have heard him enough to come to that conclusion. Certainly he is vastly brighter than some of more recent people who have run for the office of President.
He has a quick mind, does not rely on tired phrases and is willing to state things that might cause him problems, such as when he stated that Reagan was a force for change, (which he was). I find that type of thought process that of a more intellectual mind. I think the man reads.
Obama can refer to historical events both in the US and other parts of the world. Perhaps “incredibly intelligent†was more that he is due, perhaps not. Maybe I am just tired of hearing so many politicians who are incredibly stupid, and that has caused the bright to seem brighter. We’ll see as the race moves on.
Which of course brings us to the statement of HL Mencken “No one in this world has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby’.
Non – Mencken also said: “An idealist is one who, upon noticing that a rose smells better than a cabbage, concludes that it will also make a better soup.” But, as you say, we will see as the race moves on.
He also said that a pessimist is one who when he smells flowers looks for the funeral.
And, “Democracy is the pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance.”
If you look at the full quote, it looks like Obama thinks there are 60 states (57 visited + 1 to go + 2 “I was not allowed to go to”).
Dear Sara-
Take a chill pill honey.
He was tired he said 57 he MEANT 47 these candidates are up and on camera 20 hours a day, if you think that you would perform like this for over a year why not try it?
He made a mistake.
Get over yourself, please. I am not a supporter of Obama but this type of three-year-old behaviour is tiresome.
Grow up.
Too bad the point went over your head, nonaubiz.
Of course Obama is intelligent. Of course he made a gaffe. But Dan Quayle is also intelligent, and quite honestly, so is George Bush despite his incessant mangling of the English language. (His college and post-grad grades were better than John Kerry’s and, IIRC, Al Gore’s).
My point, which should be painfully obvious to anybody, is that the media ignores Obama’s gaffes and plays-up Republicans’ gaffes because of the media’s liberal bias.
Well you are dead wrong on almost all points.
The media has reported the 47/57 gaffe over and over again. (That is not to deny that Obama is the media darling and has been given a pass, cause he is and has). Yes the press is patently unfair. Agreed.
As for Bush he attended Yale which has on its board of Trustees his Grandfather, former Connecticut Senator Prescott Bush so I would not pay attention to any grades there. You may I won’t.
As for his intellect, Bush is not well read, does not have a great grasp of the history of the world and frankly had no business running for President. Same story as Jimmy Carter. Look at the results;
>War with an unclear exit strategy that we are having problems exiting.
>Oil at record highs with a President and VP who were in the industry.
>A recession.
>A housing crunch
>The last three are leading to cuts in education across the country
>No end to illegal border crossings from a right of center republican (I don’t expect a resolution from the left).
Shall I go on?
As for Quayle he can not be compared to Carter of Bush, both of whom are at least of average intelligence. Quayle is and was a moron of the highest caliber.
I could care about his spelling gaffe, if I did not type in “Word” and spell check I would do a lot worse. He made so many fundamental errors in other matters that there is no question that he’s a moron.
My personal favorite? (Not an exact quote but you’ll get it)
“Now that I’m headed to Latin America I’m sorry I didn’t study Latin harder in prep school.”
OMG!!??
But he had a hell of a 7 iron!
And I think he was a nice guy, probably great to have a beer with. Same with Bush.
Not with Carter, I couldn’t take five minutes of that guy.
