The Eastchester Republican Town Committee last night nominated Fred Salanitro for Town Board.
Salanitro was appointed to the board in January to fill the seat vacated by Rocco Cacciola, who became the town’s tax receiver. Salanitro is lawyer who has served on the Eastchester Zoning Board.
The vote was 67 for Salanitro and one opposed, said Louis Reda, the party’s chairman. The committee met at the Tuckahoe Community Center.
“Fred is a hard working, honest, sincere person,” Reda said. “He’s qualified for the position.”
The Eastchester race will no doubt be interesting as Republican Tony Sayegh last week expressed his intentions to run. The two will likely primary in September.

Salanitro is a Town Councilman and has served on town committees. What Eastchester Committees has Tony Sayegh be on?
Salanitro has received appointments to one town committee and to his present position on the Town Council. Appointments are never given to independent voices like Sayegh because it would threaten the current status quo. Sayegh should be commended for taking on this machine.
