Lowey quietly moves into campaign mode

May
20

Rep. Nita Lowey hasn’t made any grand announcements about running for re-election, but she does seem to be moving forward with her campaign.  She’s quietly launched a campaign website — loweyforcongress.com

“It is a privilege to represent Westchester and Rockland counties in the United States Congress, and I hope we can continue working together for our shared values and priorities,” Lowey says on the homepage.

Lowey had previously indicated her desire to remain in Congress but the “minor coronary incident” she suffered during a Hillary Clinton rally in February sparked speculation in some local political circles that the Harrison  Democrat would not seek re-election this fall.

    Hey Geniuses –
Lowey has had this site for years, as you can clearly tell from the way her bio refers to her as “Ranking Democrat” and not “Chairwoman.” I’m sure if you called there to ask, they’d have told you that.

Without saying anything against Madame Graybeard Congresswoman Lowey, I should only hope she not criticize John McCain owing to his age. They are both old.

The late Claude Pepper is smiling at her, from his grave.

Now: Jeanette Rankin remains one of my heroes. And she made it to 92.

But Ms. Lowey may go at any moment. (+&*#: Al : Capp figures)

Why hasn’t she relinquished her congressional position to a younger person?

A more noble person would have.

But: we are in the age of egomaniac opportunists, unhumble persons who think public service is sort of a tribute to them.

Okay: “Ms.” Lowey stood aside after the entitlement-oriented Hillary (“Lifelong Yankee Fan”) Clinton told her she wanted to run for the US Senate from her phonily-adopted state of New York in 2000.

For those of us who live in the 18th CD here in New York, we are quizzical.

Why doesn’t Ms. Lowey retire, or find a successor?

Ah! As in 1966, when LBJ’s Dem congressmen acolytes lost; or in 1994, when the (homosexual) former House Speaker’s acolytes lost, she wishes to create a Republican majority again! Just by being herself.

Just looking to stir up some trouble, I am yours—

and so you have timmy..but Nita won’t let go
neither did strom, or robert byrd, who was so distrought
that he totally lost it on the floor when he heard the
news about senator kennedy..who I believe is a bit
older than Nita…and I know Noam Bramson is waiting
in the wings for that seat…chomping at the bit
as they say…but by the time Nita is ready to retire
maybe the pendulum will have swung and a republican
might recapture the seat….that was mostly the
seat that dioguardi threw away with the crabtree
scandal..now he wants to be seriously considered
for the 19th cd…not going to happen

She is lucky that Clinton entered the 2000 race. Lowey, would have lost to Lazio or Giuliani. She headed up the DCCC in 2002 as a reward for dropping out in 2000 and in what was supposed to be a great year for Democrats and she lost big time. She was on Meet the Press supporting Hillary a few months ago and she was a terrible surrogate. If the Republicans run a strong candidate they should be able to at least make the seat competitive.

  5. the consultant

that seat will never be competetive until nita leaves
check the registration edge that democrats have…
the district goes over the bridge into the northern
portion of queens…the republicans nominated a horrible
candidate two times in a row…they apparently can’t find
anyone who wants to make a committment to running more
than once and who is also credible
