Tompkins County Democratic Committee chair and New York automatic delegate Irene Stein announced her support for Hillary Clinton today, despite Barack Obama appearing set to win the party’s nomination.
Stein has been one of three New York superdelegates who have been withholding their support from either candidate. The Ithaca Journal recently wrote that Stein faced a tough choice—alienating Clinton by going with Obama, who has most of the area’s college crowd behind him, or going with Clinton and upsetting the local Democratic Party’s base.
Apparently, Stein went with Clinton, even as her candidacy appears on the ropes.
