Sen. Charles Schumer offered little insight today on whether Sen. Hillary Clinton will drop out of the presidential race tomorrow when she returns home to New York.
“I want to talk to her before I say anything,” he said during a press conference in Rensselaer today.
“I’m a Hillary supporter, and I want to wait and see what she has to say.”
Schumer was in the Albany region to rail against the Environmental Protection Agency over plans to require recreational boaters to obtain the same permits as commercial boats. He said that recreational boaters would face up to $32,000 a day in fines if they don’t get the new permits, which have yet to be priced.
The new permitting goes into effect Sept. 30, but Schumer said he and Democratic colleagues are proposing to roll back the law.
“Forcing family boaters to get commercial licenses makes no sense,” Schumer said.
Schumer is also scheduled to join Gov. David Paterson later today in his hometown Brooklyn to announce the long-awaited sale of the nation’s largest federally subsidized housing project, Starrett City.
The deal was reached among federal, state and New York City officials, Schumer said.

Man, that must be some generous boaters’ association lobby to get Schumer to vote against
1. The EPA or DEC
2. Another tax or fee

The Presidential contest between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama is likely to be roiled in coming days by revelations that Michelle Obama made racist comments in a speech for which there is allegedly an indelible record. This is why Hillary Clinton is still in the race and why her people have been in a race with Republican Opposition Researchers to get their hands on the offensive recording.
On the heels of Michelle Obama’s quote that she “has never been proud of her country” until now, the new controversy could turn the contest up-side down but is more likely to redound to the benefit of John McCain than to boost Hillary Clinton to the nomination- if the alleged recording exists.
