Group Fights To Legalize Medical Marijuana In NY

June
3

Advocates for approving medical marijuana in New York are at the Capitol today to push to make New York the 23th state in the country to legalize marijuana for medical use.

The Marijuana Policy Project has a new ad that will be running across the state. A bill has passed the state Assembly, but has not been acted on in the state Senate.

The ad – available at mpp.org/NYad – features Kingston resident Burton Aldrich, a quadriplegic who relies on medical marijuana for his pain. In the ad, Aldrich says, “I don’t know if I’d be around if it wasn’t for medical marijuana.”

Assembly Health Committee Chair Richard Gottfried called on the Senate to pass a bill, which the Assembly passed last year 95-52.

go for it. it is an absolute disgrace this is not legitimized. the republicans again – let me contemplate their stupidity while i light up a lucky and throw back shots of tequila.

It is cruel and senseless to criminalize patients with debilitating conditions for using the medicine that works best for them, with their doctors’ support. The New York Assembly’s medical marijuana bill would be the most tightly crafted medical marijuana law in the nation. It would apply only to serious conditions, where doctors believe the medical use of marijuana would be the most effective treatment. The bill has earned the support of all major medical organizations in the state, 76% of the public, and 55% of Conservative Party members.

    MEDICAL CANNABIS

Of course medical cannabis (marijuana) should be available to people with serious medical conditions!

New York should have protected its sick and dying from having their door kicked in (& possibly killed), or from being caged a long time ago. It is tragic special interests (corruption) continue to trump Science and Compassion in New York.

What’s the holdup? More importantly, WHO is holding it up?

Cannabis has been used as a medicine for thousands of years—by MILLIONS of people worldwide—without one credible account of a single overdose, which is mind-boggling, especially considering FDA-approved drugs kill tens of thousands of people per year – even when properly prescribed and properly taken.

Cannabis can help to treat a wide array of clinical conditions—including Alzheimerʹs disease, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (a.k.a. Lou Gehrigʹs disease), Cachexia, Diabetes mellitus, Epilepsy, Dystonia, Fibromyalgia, Gastrointestinal disorders, Gliomas, Hepatitis C, Human Immunodeficiency Virus, Hypertension, Incontinence, Multiple sclerosis, Osteoporosis, Pruritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Sleep apnea, Touretteʹs syndrome, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s, to name just a few.

The following health organizations support access to medical marijuana (let’s bury the “no medical support” MYTH once and for all):

American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Physicians, American Medical Student Association, American Nurses Association, American Preventive Medical Association, American Public Health Association, American Society of Addiction Medicine, Arthritis Research Campaign (United Kingdom), Australian Medical Association (New South Wales), Limited Australian National Task Force on Cannabis, Belgian Ministry of Health, British House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology, British House of Lords Select Committee On Science and Technology (Second Report), British Medical Association, Canadian AIDS Society, Canadian Special Senate Committee on Illegal Drugs, Dr. Dean Edell (surgeon and nationally syndicated radio host), French Ministry of Health, Health Canada, Kaiser Permanente, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Lymphoma Foundation of America, The Montel Williams MS Foundation, Multiple Sclerosis Society (Canada), The Multiple Sclerosis Society (United Kingdom), National Academy of Sciences Institute Of Medicine (IOM), National Association for Public Health Policy, National Nurses Society on Addictions, Netherlands Ministry of Health, New England Journal of Medicine, New South Wales (Australia), AIDS Action Council, AIDS Treatment News, Parliamentary Working Party on the Use of Cannabis for Medical Purposes, Dr. Andrew Weil, Alaska Nurses Association, Being Alive: People With HIV/AIDS Action Committee (San Diego, CA), California Academy of Family Physicians, California Nurses Association, California Pharmacists, Colorado Nurses Association, Connecticut Nurses Association, Florida Governor’s Red Ribbon Panel on AIDS, Florida Medical Association, Hawaii Nurses Association, Illinois Nurses Association, Life Extension Foundation, Medical Society of the State of New York, Minnesota Nurses Association, the Minnesota Public Health Association, the Minnesota AIDS Council, Mississippi Nurses Association, New Jersey State Nurses Association, New Mexico Medical Society, New Mexico Nurses Association, New York County Medical Society, New York State Nurses Association, North Carolina Nurses Association, Rhode Island Medical Society, Rhode Island State Nurses Association, San Francisco Mayor’s Summit on AIDS and HIV, San Francisco Medical Society, Vermont Medical Marijuana Study Committee, Virginia Nurses Association, Whitman-Walker Clinic (Washington, DC), Wisconsin Nurses Association, etc…

And that is just a fraction of the medical support for medical marijuana, as this list just begins to touch on the international support for medical marijuana.

    End the Lies.

The choice should be left to the person, so much for land of the free. im disgusted its not legalized allready, if somebody has problems let him/her decide what they want. The fact is it will never ever be stopped if the goverment was smart, instead of spending all that money fighting it imagine how much money they could of made by taxing it. but we leave it to politicians who brought the deficit to an all time high, and an economy at an all time low, goes to show you that this goverment does not know shit. we the people have to take control of our goverment along with many other issues.

im all for legal medical weed problem is all u hippies will abuse the rule and as a result all the hippies will have the weed cards like they do in cali.if medical weed actually was for the real sick id be all for it but u hippies haaaaad to take advantage in cali be real everyone in cali has the card and none of them are sick U hippies act like u really care abuot the sick who need it But honestly ur all out vfor urselves so u can abuse the rule and have the card so u can get dope urself. If the cards actually were handed outt o the real needy medical weed already would be legal But u norml hippies abused the rule so all of uze can get the cards In NY the politicians know the hippied want to abuse the rule so its voted down time after time in the senate because u Cali hiipies abuse the medical weed.If u left it alone for the tru sick it be legal but u hippies act like u care abut the true sick but really on care about urselves getting the cards which ruined it for the true needy
