Clinton boosts Obama in Israel speech
Hillary Rodham Clinton assured an American Jewish audience this morning that Barack Obama will be friend of Israel, marking a near concession on her part that he will be the Democrats standard bearer in the November presidential election.
“I know Sen. Obma knows what is at stake here,’’ she said. “I know that Sen. Obama will be a good friend to Israel.’’
Moments earlier she said that a Democrat is needed in the White House—without mentioning her own candidacy which she has not yet officially ended.
Clinton began her speech by saying she felt like she was with family.
“I am privileged to represent one of the largest Jewish constituencies in the world,’’ said the New York senator. She noted that when members of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee go to the Hill later today to meet with lawmakers, “You won’t have to ask me where I stand. I stand with you and for you.’‘
