Schumer loyal to Clinton

New York’s senior senator isn’t rushing to endorse Barack Obama for president.

Sen. Chuck Schumer told reporters this afternoon he was the first senator to endorse Hillary Rodham Clnton’s bid for the Democratic presidential nomination and he expects to probably be the last to endorse Obama.

He rejected suggestions that Clinton has been slow to officialy concede and offer her endorsement of the presumptive Democratic nominee.

“I think Sen. Clinton has handled it very well,’’ Schumer said.

He also rejected suggestions that Obama needs to quickly name a running mate.

“It’s better to do it right than to do it quickly,’’ he said.
