DiNapoli Limits Money … To Himself

June
9

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said he’s imposing his own campaign-finance guidelines because of the state’s porous campaign finance laws.

DiNapoli, who has yet to raise money for his 2010 re-election, said he will not accept more than $10,000 per contributor per election, similar to what former Gov. Eliot Spitzer had put on himself. But DiNapoli is not a millionaire like Spitzer, who funded some of his campaigns—as did his father.

DiNapoli will also not accept contributions from employees in his office or anyone doing business with the office or the state’s pension fund, which he oversees—an issue that plagued his predecessor Alan Hevesi.

“When I sought this position, I pledged to place limits on the contributions my campaign would accept,” DiNapoli said. “Today, I am making good on that commitment.”
