Assembly Republicans Rip Degnan For “Flip-Flopping”

June
10

ball.jpgThe Republican Assembly Campaign Committee is knocking John Degnan’s acceptance of endorsements from Republicans and Democrats in his bid to beat Republican Assemblyman Greg Ball, R-Patterson, left.

Degnan, a registered Republican and former Brewster mayor, was endorsed last week by the Putnam Democratic Committee, as well as some Democratic committees in Westchester.

Ball, who is seeking a second term, has the backing of the Westchester Republicans, though Degnan was endorsed by the Putnam Republicans.

“John Degnan’s announcement earlier today that he will accept the endorsement of the Westchester County Democrat Committee is a troubling flip-flop that sends a crystal clear message to every Republican voter in the 99th Assembly District,” said Joshua Fitzpatrick, a spokesman for the Republican Assembly Campaign Committee and a staffer with Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco.

“That message? John Degnan is just another politician who will say and do anything to get elected.”

RACC is supporting Ball, whom they claim is a real reformer and a real Republican.

“The voters of the 99th Assembly District are better served by sticking with a real Republican like Assemblyman Greg Ball, someone who has the courage of his convictions and the integrity to stand by them,” Fitzpatrick said.

Greg Ball is running scared and Ball’s friends at RACC put out a public statement on his behalf. It is interesting how on one hand Greg Ball says he is shaking up Albany and claims he is an Albany outsider, and then he turns to the establishment in Albany (RACC) and asks them to put out a statement supporting him. You talk about flip flopping, Ball does not know if he wants to be an Albany insider or not. On one hand Ball brags about how Albany is so dysfunctional and then when Ball’s campaign starts heading in the wrong direction, Ball runs to his Albany friends (the establishment) and asks them for help. Maybe it is Greg Ball who is dysfunctional.

  2. Jacob

What have I been saying all along? Ball is a real Republican who will make the Putnam Co. RINOs look bad for nominating a Democrat to run against him.

  3. Somers Republican

Born in Somers and have a pretty decent idea of a ‘good republican’ and the disappointment many of us feel from two years of Ball for Ball, makes us want to vote for Degnan. Degnan is a republican and just because the democrats had the intelligence to realize Degnan is a good candidate, does not make Degnan any less of a Republican.

Wake up people. Ball is bad for the 99th.

  4. Hector

Jacob and many others keep calling John Degnan a Democrat.

    John Degnan is a Republican.

Greg Ball recently sent out a mailer stating that he is “Pro-Gun, Pro-Life and Pro-Family” –

Does Jacob have any information that says Mr. Degnan is not any of those things?

  5. Re:

If elected as a Democrat, John Degnan will conference with Sheldon Silver. If elected as a Republican, John Degnan with with Sheldon Silver.

Clearly NOT a Republican, but at least we’ll have a majority rep who can get legislation passed.

  6. SOMERS MOM

GREG BALLS MAILERS MAKE ME SICK, HE LIES ABOUT MOST EVERYTHING AND HE ATTACKS GOOD PEOPLE AND LIES ABOUT THEM. I LIVE IN SOMERS AND GREG BALL CAME TO MY DOOR TWO YEARS AGO TELLING ME ALL THESE STORIES ABOUT WILLIS STEPHENS WHICH I KNEW WERE NOT TRUE, BUT GREG BALL IS SCARY BECAUSE HE LOOKS YOU IN THE EYE IN AN INTIMADATING WAY, I WAS SCARED TO DISAGREE WITH HIM. I HOPE THE GUY JOHN DEGNAN IS A GENTLEMAN AND HE TALKS TO PEOPLE WITH RESPECT AND HE DOES NOT LIE OR TRY TO INTIMIDATE PEOPLE. ONCE I GET TO READ MORE ABOUT JOHN DEGNAN I HOPE I LIKE HIM SO I CAN GIVE HIM MY SUPPORT.

  7. vote Ball out of office

Hey! Josh Fitzpatrick is an employee with the New York State Assembly, not a parrot for politics… Republicans need to lead by example and be ethical and forthright with the people. Playing the same games that Shelly does really won’t boast well for that ‘reform’ message… And why is RACC defending Greg Ball so much anyway? Ball hasn’t even paid his dues, he bad-mouths other Republican members both in public and in private and he’s only sitting in the Assembly waiting for an opportunity to elevate himself to a higher office to fulfill his disturbing thirst for power.

Assembly Republicans lose a lot of credibility by supporting Ball and showcasing him as the model Republican.

  8. samuel clemens

Believing in good government does not make one a RINO. Casting bad actors from the party strengthens the party, especially in the case of Ball. The Republican Party does not need representation from inexperienced, unaccomplished posers such as him. What has he truly done on the issues that got him elected? Illegal immigration (Brewster) nothing, widening and expanding route 22, nothing. The former is that illegal immigration is a federal issue primarily, and secondarily, Ball being in the assembly minority (45 Republicans to 105 Democrats) there is nothing he can do. As to expanding route 22, that issue has been tied up in state court for YEARS, thanks to NY City trying to protect the watershed. So unless he can get that law suit dismissed he will fail there as well.

So what can Greg Ball do since he is so ineffectual? Have press conferences, rallies, television appearances, annoying robot call machines disturbing the dinner hour, while complaining that everyone else in the county who does not support his antics are not doing their job. He is a charlatan and has now been exposed for it. Anybody but ball!

He is a charlatan and has now been exposed for it. Anybody but ball!

  10. Mentee

Sounds just like his mentee Michael Rights. He promised to do things he knew couldn’t be done and now blames everybody else when he can’t. We need to start at the top… DUMP BALL!

  11. Clear message?

Let’s all remember that Greg only won with 50.8% of the vote against a real Democrat, rather than one that he’s just falsely accusing of being one.

Last time, no Republicans supported Harper, but this time you’ll have Republicans and Democrats supporting Degnan.

  12. Quotes

If you didn’t read the title, you’d think they were talking about…

    Greg Ball…

“just another politician who will say and do anything to get elected.”

    or John Degnan…

“someone who has the courage of his convictions and the integrity to stand by them”

    Pretty funny!

  13. Intimidation

Somers Mom said “I WAS SCARED TO DISAGREE WITH HIM”

There are plenty of people that feel that way and are afraid to say it. They won’t be intimidated behind the curtain though.

He doesn’t have nearly the support he thinks he has.

  14. Great Points

JB Great points on flip-flopping “running to the establishment for help”.

Don’t forget him BEGGING the Putnam GOP for support and then saying he didn’t want it after he didn’t get it.

  15. Somers Republican

What a joke this story is. Ball is NOT like by many republicans in Albany and it is just a ‘party’ statement, not meaning they all like Ball. Probably was hard for them to come up with encouraging words for Ball.

  16. Somers Republican

Somers Mom, YOU ARE RIGHT. Ball is scarey.

  17. jb

He also pleaded with the Conservatives in Putnam County and when things were not going so well during the interview, Ball stated Chairman of the Conservative Party Mr. James Maxwell, “If you were 10 years younger, I would take you outside and kick your ass”. Once Ball realized he screwed up with the local Conservatives he ran to Albany to the “Albany establishment” and asked NYS Conservative Chairman Mike Long for his help in getting the Conservative endorsement. Ball is begging everyone for help now.

For a guy who claims he is not an insider in Albany, Mr. Ball is doing a lot of cashing in of favors from his friends in Albany. Oh, I forgot, Greg Ball does not want you to know that he has friends in Albany, Greg Ball wants you to think it is him against the world. “King Fraud” Mr. Ball is running scared and trying to cash in all his chips in Albany. Ball is no outsider, he is one of the boys, but he can not get anything done in Albany so he would like us all to believe he is shaking things up in Albany. The only thing Ball is trying to shake up in Albany is support for his reelection.

Please take a close look at John Degnan and consider voting for him, John Degnan is a level headed man who will represent the 99th Assembly District with determination, pride and respect.

  18. LTN

It would appear that Mr. Ball talks out both sides of his mouth. I will be watching this race closely and seeing if Mr. Ball does like he has done in the past and runs a nasty race like the race he ran for his SOS team in Southeast. You can always count on the little weasle running around with his camera hiding in cars, that would be Matty.

  19. LTN...

    You can count on it.

  20. LTN...

    You can count on it!

  21. LTN

Flip Flop is similar to Don’t ask don’t tell?

  22. Ball is an Embarrassment

Ball MUST have a screw lose or two. HE went after the Democratic endorsement two years ago. He is a lying, thieving (Polo anyone?) piece of political $cum. Degnan, for all his faults, is at least honorable.

  23. 7Curses

the stench from the incumbent from the 99th AD is overwhelming and the republicans should deal with their own garbage

  24. Somers Republican

LTN…you mentioned ‘dont ask, dont tell.’ Were you referring to Balls early military departure ? Lots of rumors around as to why Ball left early with an honorable discharge, but Ball has failed to say why. Of course, if an officer were to become a liability, they probably would send them packing honorably. Would be very interesting if Ball told people why so the rumors can stop.
Aside from that, Ball needs to be voted out of office. He has not neen the best representative for the Republicans.

  25. jb

Ball will never answer the question as to why he left the military early. If Ball had a good reason and it was truely HONORABLE, Ball would have come out with the facts. The facts are that his departure from the military prior to fulfilling his commitment leaves many questions amongst veterans and voters. “King Fraud Ball” motto is keep the Ball rolling, I would say that the Ball is deflating and soon the Ball will be flat and we will be able to dispose of the old Ball with all it lies.

John Degnan is the fresh new leader that the 99th Assembly District needs.

  26. Real Reformer?

RACC is supporting Ball, whom they claim is a real reformer and a real Republican.

What? What has Ball done to reform anything!

  27. jb

RACC is also part of the Albany Political machine that Greg Ball claims he is fighting against. Ball is an Albany insider trying to give voters the impression that he is an outsider. Ball is a fraud and will be exposed over the next few months. Greg Ball is an Albany insider, unfortunately he is very bad at it and the 99th Assembly District is paying the price for it.

  28. Protocol Officer

Is RACC aware that Greg Ball interviewed for the Democratic nomination in 2006?

  29. Protocol Officer

Is RACC aware the Greg Ball interviewed for the Democratic endorsement two years ago?

  30. Protocol Officer

Is RACC aware that Greg Ball tried very hard to get both the Republican and Democrat endorsement in 2006?

  31. Protocol Officer

Is everyone aware that Greg Ball interviewed for the Democratic endorsement in 2006? Does everyone know that? Well, now you know.

  32. Protocol Officer

Is everyone aware that Greg Ball interviewed for the Democratic endorsement in 2006? Does everyone know that? Well, now you know. Fact.

  33. Protocol Officer

Does everyone know that Greg Ball interviewed for the Democrat endorsement in 2006, and now claims he didn’t, despite the obvious evidence to the contrary? Why would a guy lie like that if there is irrefutable proof that he interviewed?

  34. zzzz

We hear all these claims of irrefutable proof about a number of things, but no one has ever come forward with any. Back in january, we were promised proof in March. It just sounds like more of the same wingnut astroturfing under 10 names to the 30 people who read this forum.

  35. Ian

If we didn’t know, we surely would after you posted the same message six times:-)

  36. ed

Protocol Officer: It may go without saying, but you rarely do.

  37. Protocol Officer

Greg Ball interviewed with the Democrats in 2006. He sought the Democrati endorsement for the 99th Assembly District. His supporters now claim that that is not true (the same supporters who claim that Degnan is a registered Democrat).

Perhaps anyone who doubts thatGreg Ball interviewed for the Democratic endorsement in 2006, why don’t YOU do something you NEVER do: PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS. ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS FOR A CHANGE. SEEK INFORMATION. CALL LYNNE ECKHARDT, THE HAIR OF THE PUTNAM DEMOCRATS, AND SIMPLY INQUIRE WHETHER OR NOT GREG BALL INTERVIEWED FOR THE DEMOCRATIC ENDORSEMENT IN 2006 FOR THE 99TH ASSEMBLY RACE AGAINST WILL STEPHENS. If you are so confident that Gregory Robert Ball did not interview for the Democratic endorsement, give Ms. Eckhardt a call and simply ask her. This is not secret, confidential information. It’s simply a fact. That deflated BALL is in your corner. Make the call and let us know how you make out.

  38. Protocol Officer

In case you guys are playing semantics, Ball may have interviewed in 2005 for the 2006 Assembly race. Just in case you guys are trying to be cute.

Either way, Greg Ball is now accusing John Degnan of something that he himself tried (and failed) to do. Greg Ball tried to run with the Democrat tag next to his name for the 2006 Assembly race.

  39. zzzz

Did Greg Ball try to run with the Working Families Party? No. They endorsed Degnan, right? According to their website, to get endorsed by the Working Families party, you have to A) support drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, B) support gay marriage, C) Oppose the death penalty, D) support gun control.

What kind of Republican is Degnan anyway? Maybe the same as his “Republican” campaign manager who has only given money to Democrats?

  40. Somers Republican

Those of us that remember when Ball first decided to run for Assembly know he did infact want the democratic nomination. Of course, we are not supposed to remember that.

Many of us would like Mr. Ball to tell people why he left the military early. It is obvious that Ball had a long term plan when entering the Air Force used the Military Academy for a free education and stepping stone into politics but what excuse did he use to leave early? This needs to be answered.

  41. A pretty big stretch

C’mon zzzz. I think you reached a bit with your “requirements” to be endorsed. While your statements are loosely based on their policy, we all know that you don’t have to agree with your party on every item especially for a minor party endorsement. Nice try though.

  42. zzzz

Oh yea? Call the Working Families Party and ask.

Degnan would have had to have answered that he supported drivers licenses, favored an immediate death penalty moratorium, and supported gay marriage in order to be endorsed.

Now, he could have lied about it, but whats he going to say when a reporter asks?

  43. Protocol Officer

    ZZZZ,

Nice try. There is no chance that Degnan answered YES to any one of those questions. Besides, you’re doing the “Greg Ball” thing: GUESSING. Why don’t you do what all Ball sycophants should do, put your money where your mouth is. Call the head of the Working Family Party who YOU claim interviewed Degnan and ask him. Post his name and his response to your questions? What’s the matter? You’re afraid you may find out the truth? The truth is not what the Ball camp is after, as we all have discovered the hard way for the past 2 years.

Degnan did more quality action in Brewster to clean up the illegal alien situation in Brewster than Greg Ball will ever do in a lifetime, in any political position. Ball has done NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING. Got it? NOTHING. Ball talked better than Degnan, I have to give him that. All Degnan did was produce. Let me know if you wish to discuss Ball’s accomplishments in Brewster compared to Degnan’s. Ball screamed a lot, that’s about it. He held those silly rallies which accomplished nothing, as we all know.

ZZZZ, please understand that it’s all over. The people of Putnam County have discovered exactly who Greg Ball is and what he’s about.

So please call the Chair of the Putnam County Democratic Committee and simply ask her if God’s gift to the Republican Party tried to run as a Democrat two years ago. Then, while you’re at it, call the Chairman of the Putnam County Republican Committee and simply ask him when Mr. GOP became a Republican. Ask him if Mr. GOP was actually a registered “BLANK” until 2004. Then let us know what you find out. We’ll be waiting.

  44. Protocol Officer

In all fairness, Ball DID come in with that artist rendition from that smoke and mirrors corporation, Exceed Development. He’s been trying to lower the property values in Brewster to buy up the land and help his friend buy the property and build, build build, making Ball rich. Why do you think that Southeast Town Board meetings are the only Town Board meetings Ball goes to? Ever find that strange? He doesn’t go to Town Board meetings in Carmel, Patterson, Cold Spring, Philipstown, or Kent. Only Southeast.

    Ever wonder why…...............?

  45. zzzz

More empty claims, with zero proof to back them up from the Ball hating crowd.

Accordingly, the Working Families Party opposes any Consitutional amendement to limit equal protection, including the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment.

Accordingly, we support the following measures:

    • Legislation to extend to farmworkers, most of them immigrants, the same rights under labor law as other workers.
    • Legislation ensuring that legal immigrants are eligible for all social services, including Food Stamps and programs for the homeless.
    • Issuing drivers’ licenses to all immigrants who can pass the appropriate tests, whether documented or undocumeted.
    • Legislation requiring public agencies and private businesses to accept appropriate identification issued by foreign consulates (“matriculas consulares”) in place of a New York-issued photo ID.

So I guess the MAyor lied on his WFP questionnaire then. Also, the WFP should invest in a spellcheck.

  46. Somers Republican

zzzzz…guess you have been catching lots of zzzzzz and slept away the last year and one-half while Ball has been in office and failed to give good representation to the 99th Assembly District. Wake up.

  47. Protocol Officer

As USUAL, and according to the Ball manifesto, ZZZZ answered nothing and was too scared to go digging for info. It’s amazing how the Ball-boys will research everything there is to know about the Working Family Line, yet they know so little about their very own candidate.

You want proof that Ball interviewed for the Democrat endorsement for the 2006 Assembly race? I already told you 5 times: CALL THE CHAIRWOMAN OF THE PUTNAM COUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE AND ASK HER IF A GUY NAMED GREG BALL INTERVIEWED AND SOUGHT OUT THE ENDORSEMENT AND SUPPORT OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY FOR THE 2006 ASSEMBLY RACE. There, ZZZZ, is your proof. See it for your own eyes, which is the best type of proof. I see you’re too scared to do that, because deep down you know what I’m saying is true. Greg Ball sought the support and endorsement of the Democratic Party, and he failed to get it. Just like he begged for the Putnam GOP support, didn’t get it, then claimed how he didn’t want it anyway.

After you call the Chairwoman of the Putnam Democratic Committee, let us know what she says. If you have the courage. Then you can call the Republican Chair Tony Scannapieco and ask him how long has Greg Ball been a Republican. Then let us know what he says as well.

  48. Protocol Officer

Still waiting. Call the chair of the Putnam Dems and the chair of the Putnam GOP and ask the questions you need to ask. You are so confident that this true information is actually false…..so make the calls. And let us know what they tell you.

  49. zzzz

OK, yea, let me just call someone convicted of libel and ask for their opinion. Good idea. Have fun losing the primary by 40 points.

  50. Somers Republican

zzzz…..wake up and take the challange and make the call instead of trying to find excuses not to.
Not all residents of Somers are pleased with Ball as Ball thinks they are.

  51. Protocol Officer

    ZZZZZ,

I seldom use this word, but you are a coward. You know what the answr would be if you called the Chairwoman of the Putnam County DEmocratic Committee and asked her if Greg Ball interviewed in front of the Putnam Democrats to ask for the Democratic Party endorsement for the 2006 race. You know the answer would be a resounding YES, so you avoid the pain by pretneding there’s some other issue. What an absolute coward you are. You don’t even have the courage to find out the truth about your own candidate.

Not that it matters, because a coward will just keep finding excuses, but Greg Ball interviewed in front of THE ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE for the 2006 race. If you were anyone other than Matt the punk, I would say to ask any one of them. I guess cowardice is what drives your campaign, sort of like leaving the Air Force YEARS before your term was up, right smack in the middle of a war, where troops are dying in the field, and you leave to run for NYS Assembly. How can I expect someone that’s a peeping Tom to have courage?

AGAIN: call the chairwoman of the Putnam County Democratic Committee and find out if Greg Ball interviewed for the Democratic endorsement in 2006. Ask each one of the Board members. Stop making excuses and being a coward.

AGAIN: call the Chairman of the Putnam County Republican Committee and ask him when Greg Ball actually became a Republican.

    Post your answers. Coward.

  52. Protocol Officer

    Folks:

ZZZZ is too muh of a coward to find out the truth about his own candidate, as we all know how much Ball and his camp lie to further their own agenda. So hereare two facts.

FACT: Greg Ball interviewed for the Democratic endorsement for the 2006 NYS Assembly race, 99th AD. He tried to run as a Democrat, with the “D”displayed proudly next to his name. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but you can’t accuse someone of something that you yourself already tried (ad failed) to do. Ball interviewed in front of the Putnam County Democratic Committee.

FACT: Greg Ball only recently registered as a Republican. In his very short adult life, Greg Ball was always registered as a “BLANK”. The year before his run for Assembly, he changed his party affiliation from BLANK to REPUBLICAN. Should you need verification on this, simply call the Chairman of the Putnam County Republican Committee and he can verify this for you. It’s public information. The chairman himself looked it up once when he asked Ball how long he’s been a Republican, and Ball lied to the Chairman and said his whole adult life. The Chairman looked it up and found out that Greg Ball was lying.

So, make the calls if you want to find out the truth.
