Gov. David Paterson on the breaking news that Tim Russert, host of NBC’s Meet the Press and its Washington bureau chief, died at work Friday after suffering an apparent heart attack. He was 58.
“The celebrated news anchor Tim Russert died today. And he was a resident of Buffalo, New York, had worked in the governor’s office in the state of New York, had been an outstanding journalist.
“And for those who watched Meet the Press every Sunday, any guest on that program was subjected to his steadfast discipline, critical and honest nature.
“He really was an outstanding broadcaster. It comes as a shock to all of us that he would pass away before his father, for whom he wrote a wonderful book some years ago.
S”o just on behalf of all of us here in journalism and in government and just people all around the country whose knowledge of the world was benefited by his contribution, we extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to the family of Tim Russert, who died in his office in Washington D.C. Thank you.
