Volunteer advocates with the New York Public Research Interest Group sent out an S.O.S. message in a bottle to Senate Majority members urging them to pass the state’s Bigger Better Bottle Bill.
The bill, which has been on the floor for about six years, would extend the five-cent deposit available on carbonated beverage bottles to water and juice bottles. The Assembly passed the bill last week.
“It’s a top priority for the environment,” said Laura Haight of NYPIRG.
Gov. David Paterson should be playing a larger roll in negotiating a deal with the Senate to have the bill passed because “we believe there is middle ground here,” she said.

Right. As Hillary said: “Pass the bottle, Bill.”
