Yonkers Mayor Pushes For More State Education Aid
Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone was in Albany last week meeting with Gov. David Paterson over Amicone’s contention that the city is shortchanged when it comes to education aid.
Amicone pointed to Paterson that Yonkers get about $3,000 less per pupil in state school aid than other big cities, such as Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse.
Paterson seemed to get the point, an Amicone aide said.
“He had a very encouraging meeting with the governor and he believes he received a sympathetic ear from the governor,” said Amicone spokesman David Simpson.
Amicone’s office has the lofty hope that the governor and the state Legislature will revisit the current 2008-09 budget and address the disparity. Y
Yet that seems quite unlikely, even though Paterson has warned that lawmakers may need to come back to Albany before year’s end to make budget adjustments.

After reading the Journal News article about the unreal overtime abuse in Yonkers and seeing some of the high salaries that are being paid for jobs that don’t deserve such salaries, the state should tell Amicone to shove it until he learns how to manage his city.
Yonkers could be looking at a Control Board with the fiscal mismanagement it has. And they want to the state to give them millions of dollars more? Why, so they can mis-manage that money too? Yonkers taxpayers must be furious.
WE ARE FURIOUS AND ONE OF THE REASONS IS ANDREA STEWART COUSINS. I HAVE 76 MILLION REASONS WHY NICK SPANO SHOULD STILL BE OUR SENATOR…I’M MOVING!!!!
Hi, Lou. While Cousins is not good at all, she has nothing to do with the gross mismanagement of Yonkers’s own money. That fault, a big fault, is on Amicone and other Yonkers officials, including the City Council.
