Assembly oks medical-marijuana bill

Posted by: Jay Gallagher - Posted in Uncategorized on Jun 18, 2008

The Assembly just approved a bill to legalize the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes, 79-48. This is an annual exercise in futility,  since the measure has never been passed in the Senate, and is unlikely to be this year as well.

Sponsor Richard Gottfried, D-Manhattan pointed out that other more potent drugs are legal, and that marijuana can bring some significant pain relief to people whose suffering otherwise goes unabated. But opponents are concerned that legalizing its use for this narrow purpose would result in more widespread use.

The Assembly also today will pass another “one-house’’ bill – public financing of political  campaigns.  That idea is also likely to die in the Senate.

Later today the Senate was expected to get on the “one-house-bill’’ bandwagon, passing a death-penalty bill that has virtually no chance of passing the Assembly.

There is absolutely no reason that medical marijuana should
not be legal if a doctor prescribes it for pain or
eye problems…possession of marijuana today in new york
is no longer criminal..so to stop those who need it from
using it when medically necessary is criminal

    Truth.

Truth, that is, if there is absolutely no viable proven alternative.

First: I am all for medical marijuana—and, for that matter, I would like to see grass legalized, when consumed in one’s own home.

Next: where did George Soros, the adopted Westchester resident who would like to be the world’s biggest drug-dealer, figure in this bill?

Soros is not to be confused with Oros.

George Soros is a wonderfully evil, diabolical guy who bankrupted Micronesia, and was errantly called a “philanthropist” for his money support of the California Med Marijuana Initiative in 1996.

He is a Bond villain, yet has an interesting nice side to him.

Tim – Still have the surfboard from the old California Dreamin’ days? (‘Twenty six miles across the sea, Santa Catalina is a waitin’ for me.’) I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but Tug McGraw, the old Mets relief pitcher and father of that country singer,Tim, when asked by a sportswriter his opinion on what he preferred, artificial turf or natural grass, responded: “I don’t know; I’ve never smoked artificial turf.”

A homocide? Interesting. I had no idea of the victim’s preferences.

The above, of course, was meant for a different blog. Sorry about that.

    Ed, you are HILARIOUS!

I got the “HOMOcide” ref—back to Kevin Spacey in L A Confidential.

Funny thing (perhaps): as a native Californian (fifth generation) I never once have been surfing, nor did I ever own a Cuisinart.

Me, I am an adopted New Yorker, for better or for worse. Until I’m run out of town.

The guys I know at DPW here in Hastings are better read than most of the professional folks I left behind in SoCal.

The only thing I miss about my hometown is Dodger Stadium.
