Union Loves Joe Bruno

The New York State United Teachers today called Joe Bruno an “American Success Story.”
“The Senate majority leader is an American original, a true American success story,” said NYSUT President Richard C. Iannuzzi. “Sen. Bruno never forgot his upbringing and has been diligent in respecting the voice of labor.”
Of course, Iannuzzi’s statement solidifies one of the major criticisms of Bruno: that he wasn’t a fiscal conservative and ran lock-step with free-spending Democrats to curry favor with powerful unions to remain in power.
State spending and taxes soared under Bruno’s leadership of the Senate Republicans, who at least twice vetoed cuts made by former Gov. George Pataki.ÂÂ And until this year, Bruno signed off on increases in spending above the governors’ proposals made in January.
As one Republican reader emailed me, Bruno “decimated the GOP by undermining every Republican principle of small government, lower taxes and individual liberty.”

That item belongs on Saturday Night Live. Of course the teachers unions love Bruno. Whenever they said “jump,” he would ask, “How high?”
Bruno was an indentured servant, a fully owned subsidiary of the teachers and other unions.
It’s great that he’s gone. Wonder if he will have an upcoming “vacation” at Club Fed.
Perhaps the NYSUT get get him into a Doctoral program at Auburn State Correctional Facility. Interesting, too, that Senor Iannuzzi defines $100,000+ bourgeoisie as “labor.”
boy you guys are tough..but the teachers union has
run rampant over the electoral system..they offer
phone banks at election time….bodies to campaign
and of course money….but in the end the taxpayers
get screwed
We’re not rough
And we’re not tough
But, we’re erudite
And that’s enough.
Wasn’t that the “fight song” for the football team in Lewisburg, Pa? That’s the Club Fed where Killer Joe Bruno may end up. “Look at Killer Joe go, heading to P-A. Cause The Feds have got him, and he’s goin’ away.”
The Consultant should like that one. It’s a play on the Rocky Fellers “Killer Joe” from way back when.
Wahoo, perhaps you’re confusing this with the old Club Fed cheer: “Moola, Moola – We Stole the Moola – Moola, Moola, -Rah Rah Rah!
Yes, could be, Ed. :) That’s pretty good. Because he is a Javits and Rockefeller Republican I also thought the Consultant would be “in tune” with the adjustment made to the Rocky Fellers’ “Killer Joe.”
On more important things, while Walt and someone else joke about the NY Daily News, that paper and the Post continue to trample the Journal News on Bruno.
Today’s http://www.nydailynews.com reports that very recently Bruno’s lawyer called the Feds to ask that if Bruno resigned, would the Fed probe lighten up or go away? The News says Bruno’s lawyer did not receive a response.
Today’s http://www.nypost.com expands on yesterday’s News article, by reporting that 30 boxes of Bruno material were turned over to the Feds just hours before he quit. The Post reports these documents go back to 1995. The Post also reports that the Southern District Feds are assisting the Northen District.
Spitzer in March. Now Bruno. Good old Albany, one of the chief Corruption Capitals of America. Can Shelly Silver be far behind the other two?
Ironically, the dark truths about NY State politics are rarely exposed in print EXCEPT in the two NY tabloids.
Silver has a deal with a major plaintiffs personal
injury firm..and then he votes on legistlation
affecting their business..sweet don’t you think?
Little wonder then that he and Shelly saw eye to eye on a few issues.
That’s right. Silver is a master of conflict of interest, and is a prime reason why tort reform has not happened in NY.
Silver is facting a primary for the first time in over 20 years. Two opponents will primary him, in fact. One of them, according to today’s Daily News, is being backed by a former Albany staffer, a female, who charged that Silver covered up a “date rape” of her by his aide, Bill Boxer.
Boxer was caught for basically the same offense two years later with someone else, pled out to a misdemeanor and lost his law license. Maybe Silver’s finally going to get his just desserts, too.
Memo to Walt Trombone—In its editorial today, The Journal News mentioned the same revelations about Bruno by the News and Post which I referred to yesterday.
“State spending and taxes soared.” Union loves Joe, and understandably so.
