Mr. Tedisco comes to town

Posted by: Mike Risinit - Posted in 99th Assembly District, Greg Ball, James Tedisco, John Degnan on Jun 25, 2008

Some thoughts from Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco, R-Schenectady, who came to Westchester today to campaign for Assemblyman Greg Ball, R-Patterson.

On whether Sen. Joseph Bruno’s decision to step down as head of the state Senate would affect any legislative action, Tedisco thought Long Island Sen. Dean Skelos, R-Rockville Center Centre, the new Senate majority leader, was up to the job: “I don’t know if it makes that much difference. I think Dean Skelos has learned a lot from him (Bruno).”

On lawmakers returning to Albany to take care of unfinished business, such as a deal on property taxes: “We’re ready to never leave.”

Read more after the break, including a comment from Ball’s opponent.

Tedisco, Ball and about 30 supporters gathered in front of the Elephant Hotel in Somers. The Assembly minority leader took a couple of shots at Republican John Degnan, who is challenging Ball in his bid for a second term.

Tedisco criticized Degnan, a former Brewster mayor and trustee, for accepting the endorsement of the Westchester and Putnam Democratic parties and also the Working Families Party. When asked if other Assembly Republicans who had received the WF endorsement would be subject to the same criticism, Tedisco said no.

“As long as they don’t combine that with the Democratic endorsement and are standing up for what they believe in, I can accept that,” Tedisco said.

Ball and Degnan have been battling over endorsements. Ball was endorsed by the Westchester GOP, Degnan was also endorsed by the Putnam GOP. The Westchester Dems endorsed Degnan two weeks ago in front of the same building.

Tedisco and Ball both criticized Degnan for accepting the Democratic endorsements. Ball said Degnan would be “a rubber stamp for (Assembly Speaker) Sheldon (Silver)”, a Democrat. Tedisco faulted Degnan for not saying which party he would caucus with in Albany.

Reached afterwards, Degnan said Ball’s appearance with Tedisco belied the Patterson assemblyman’s stance as a reformer and outsider. Degnan said he hadn’t considered yet who he would caucus with in Albany.

“But I’m a lifelong registered Republican and I will continue to represent those interests,” Degnan said. “Mr. Ball says he’s a reformer and he’s relying on the insiders to succeed.”

Still more mainstream Republican support for Ball and nothing but liberal losers and RINOs for DEMOCRAT Degnan.

  2. samuel clemens

Ronald Reagan was a Democrat at one time, and the head of the Screen Actors Guild. I guess that would make him a RINO as well, huh?

  3. zzzz

Ronald Reagan was a conservative Democrat. John Degnan is a liberal Democrat. Don’t ever compare Degnan to Reagan again.

  4. samuel clemens

zzzz Do you know what a guild is?

  5. ed

As in ‘don’t guild the lilly?’ Gotta love it when someone says: “Don’t ever…again!” It is to laugh.

  6. Somers Republican

Here we go again. Ball pushing for election with Somers voters. This time he brought someone with some election history to show that he (Ball) has support.

I hope people are not fooled by Balls actions.
Ball is concentrating on Northern Westchester towns as he hoping they have not figured him out yet but there are many of us in Somesrs that will NOT vote for Ball.

  7. Peekaboo

Oops. Tedisco sells Ball down the river.
Ball fought like hell to get the Democratic endorsement during the 2006 race. And it was close. People actually believed his bull about being a reformer, an environmental activist, for gay rights, for a woman’s choice, anti-tax.

But he didn’t get the endorsement because people were able to see through his false promises before it was too late.

However, Mr. Ball now falls in the same category as Tedisco condemns. He sought the Democratic endorsement before he even qualified for the Republican primary. I would not be surprised to learn that he outreached to WFP in 2006 as well. The man has no character other than narcissism.

The lies just keep on coming.

There will be more to come about Ball and his past and his reaching out to groups and people he now claims he despises. Ball is a fraud and is going to be exposed, the Protocol Officer if right on track with many of his comments. There is no question that Ball wanted the Democratic Line in 2006 and now he try’s to make a big issue about it when Degnan gets it, Ball is an Albany insider who try’s to act like an outsider. You would think he was an outsider because of his lack of achievements, but he is Tedisco’s puppet.

  9. Somers Republican

Question: Where is Balls campaign headquarters?

  10. WaltTrombone

    “Greg Ball Campaign HQ
    PO Box 607
    Pawling NY 12564
Or call 917 681 9302 to call Greg directly!”

    Info from his website

  11. Somers Republican

Walt trombone…..where is the ‘physical’ address !!!!! I doubt Mr. Ball conducts business in the Post Office. Some of us were thinking of dropping in but could not find anywhere on Ball’s web page the location !!

  12. WaltTrombone

Couldn’t find it. Why not call him up and ask if you can drop by?

  13. tuscany summer

Knowing Greg, he is probably running his campaign out of his taxpayer-funded Assembly District office. Why not just stop by there?

  14. RS

I believe its been said here before, the campaign office is located on Rte 22 behind Burger King. Unlike Mr. Degnan’s office, it is fully staffed with volunteers.

Have you all completely deluded yourselves? Degnan may not even make it onto a primary ballot since everyone he has canvassed has already signed for ball (self included). That’s what happens when you wait until June to start a race.

Not to mention facing someone who pulled 70% of a primary against a SIX TERM INCUMBENT WHOSE FAMILY HELD THE SEAT FOR 70 YEARS! What suddenly makes you think that the 25 of you who voted for Will Stephens are suddenly going to change everyone else’s mind based on “mysterious air force” documents that never appear and nominating a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT in a Republican primary? Have you guys in Brewster lost it?

Your candidate finished DEAD LAST the last time he tried for a Republican primary. He can’t even afford a website. He paid $4000 for his supervisor one, if he can’t even raise $4000 against a candidate who raised $100k and loaned himself $100k more, there is no race.

  15. RS - BS

You know darm well this isn’t true, but I guess it’s par for the course…

“Degnan may not even make it onto a primary ballot since everyone he has canvassed has already signed for ball”

  16. November

Ultimately November is all that matters. Considering that Greg only received 46% of the total vote last time around against a weaker candidate, I think he’ll be hanging up his hat come November. Last time he was able to garner some “vote for change” and “hope” votes. That will no longer work for him.

  17. Somers Republican

My friend and I took a ride as we were very interested to see if office was there where poster said it was. There was not a campaign office behind any burger king in Pawling, NY. I was told it used to be there in 2006 but no more. We were also told it was an office of some developement company that Mr.
Ball made into a campaign office last time.
So our next step will be to call the Assemblyman and see if he does have an office. Maybe he is doing it out of his home.

  18. How can that be?

RS knows that it’s “fully staffed with volunteers”, how can it not be where he says it is?

  19. Somers Republican

Maybe we went to wrong place? But there was a boarded up building in front that looked like it used to be a burger king. Behind it is a building that houses some businesses, but nothing for Mr. Ball was evident. This was on Rt. 22 in pawling before the Supermarket, Hannafords and Putnam Co. Saving Bank. Anyone have any quesses where they went?
    Maybe they moved it again?????

  20. Just found this...

Fact: January 9, 2008 The Governor declares in his State of The State Address the following: “ I will send you a bill guaranteeing New York’s returning combat veterans a benefit that covers the cost of SUNY and CUNY tuition…”

Fact: One week later on January 17, 2008 Assemblyman Ball introduced Assembly Bill # 9701 proposing a remission program for veterans.

Fact: On January 22, 2008 the Governor submitted as part of his Executive Budget Assembly Bill # 9803 which proposed to appropriate funding to provide tuition to Combat Veterans.

Fact: On April 9, 2008 Assemblyman Ball votes “NO’ against Assembly Bill # 9803 and “NO” to provide tuition assistance to combat veterans.

Fact: On April 10, 2008 Mr. Ball declares that his Assembly Bill # 9701 was made part of the budget – even though he voted against it.

Fact: Mr. Ball’s Assembly Bill #9701 today remains in Assembly Higher Education Committee.

  21. WaltTrombone

Hey, I saw Greg Ball at the pre-4th of July parade in Somers this morning. (Still driving his gas-guzzler Land Rover.) If he’s so popular, why does he have to ask the band when the parades are happening? Could it be that he wasn’t invited to any?
