Paterson Not Tough? (Updated)

June
27

A lot of talk around the Capitol in recent weeks has been whether Gov. David Paterson’s accommodating demeanor means he’s a push over.

But just ask Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco. Tedisco, R-Schenectady, appeared to upstage Paterson by railing for a tax cap at a press conference earlier this month with Paterson on an unrelated issue.

Tedisco, left, was not invited back when legislative leaders announced subsequent agreements.

“He’s very tough,” said Senate Minority Leader Malcolm Smith, D-Queens, who because of Tedisco’s punishment was also not invited to recent announcements.

“Those that think he’s a pushover should hold onto their hats. Because you don’t want that kind of run-in.”

Updated: Tedisco’s aides said that Paterson didn’t shut them out. Instead, they claim that Tedisco choose not to attend recent announcements because they were shut out of the negotiations.
