Golisano To Launch “Responsible New York”

July
7

Tom Golisano, the billionaire founder of Paychex Inc., is unveiling his new political action committee tomorrow in Albany, called Responsible New York.

Golisano, the three-time gubernatorial candidate, is expected to announce that he will put $1 million into races where he thinks the incumbent hasn’t been doing a good job.

He is already set to put his money into backing three Senate Democratic candidates — “Baby” Joe Mesi, who is running for a seat being vacated by Sen. Mary Lou Rath, R-Amherst, Erie County; Kathy Konst, who is expected to run against Sen. Dale Volker, R-Depew, Erie County; and Richard Dollinger, who is running against Sen. Joseph Robach, R-Greece.

He is also said to be considering backing Democrat David Nachbar, a millionaire in his own right, in Nachbar’s quest to unseat Republican Sen. James Alesi, R-Perinton.

this is an interesting development…Golisano is able
to have a huge influence on the composition of the
state senate…which is now teetering on becoming democratic
However it would seem to me that if Mr Golisano were as
Independent as he claims to be he would be more interested
in preserving two party government in new york which is
in danger of being wiped out

If Golisano thinks the words “Democratic candidates” and “Responsible New York” go together he’s crazy.

Golisano is a buffoon…although a rich one. Why would a self-professed “independent” want to give complete control of State government to a one-party machine that would destroy any notion of checks and balances???

  4. the consultant

thats the 64,000 question..it goes against everything
he has stood for…which would lead me to believe
that the democrats understand that mike bloomberg
or rudy will be running as the republican for governor
and they will need to have a candidate who can self
finance..ie mr golisano runs as an IND and gets cross
    endorsement

Very interesting proposition Consultant…good thinking here (just not on social host law!)

    Thanks barbara….

Is “Baby” Joe Mesi a welterweight or a lightweight?

  8. Sara R.

An interesting speculation, consultant. That would mean that the Dems throw Paterson under the bus just to get at Golisano’s money for the gubernatorial race. Unless he implodes or has a Spitzer-esque scandal, I’m not sure they’d do that.

Then again, we are talking about the New York Democrat party.

  9. the consultant

yes we are talking about the democratic party and
if you factor in bloomberg or giuliani and their
ability to raise big bucks…patterson will simply
step to the side…Golisano has already been vetted
nothing there..but there is plenty in patterson’s backround
that would be grist for an election year contest
