Bad economy? What’s that?

July

Quite a few political candidates seem to be having no trouble raising and spending campaign money, despite the troubled economy. Here are lists of the top fundraisers and spenders, with thanks to the New York Public Interest Research Group for some quick calculations:   Most money in the bank:
—Suffolk County Exec. Steve Levy, $3.3 million
—Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, $3.04 million
—Senator Joseph Bruno, $1.7 million
—Thomas Gulotta, former Nassau County executive, $1.65 million
—Thomas Suozzi, Nassau County executive, $1.63 million
—Dean Skelos, Senate majority leader, Nassau County, $1.37 million
—Andy Spano, Westchester County executive, $1.31 million
—Simcha Felder, Kings County, $1.27 million
—David Yassky, Kings County, $1.25 million
—Assemblyman Dov Hikind, Brooklyn, $1.21 million

   Most spent:
—Former Gov. Eliot Spitzer, $2.91 million
—Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack, Rockland County, $826,573
—Richard David for District Attorney, $564,235
—Sen. Serf Maltese, Queens, $331,013
—Sen. Joseph Bruno, Rensselaer County, $324,764
—Sen. Thomas Libous, Binghamton, $300,384
—Simcha Felder, Kings County, $245,610

  1. Re:

    Contributions to Ball: $101,427.35
    Contributions to Degnan: $12,000.00

    Not counting loans/transfers/in-kind.

    Not a good sign.

  2. Follow the $$$

It gets worse. Degnan actually only raised $6,000 from individuals like you and me. The rest of that number came from Willis Stephens.

Now, in total, Degnan raised around 35k.

Almost all of that comes from “Transfers In”, from the Southeast Republican Committee.

I thought it was strange that the Southeast Republican Committee would be donating $25,000 to a candidate running as a Democrat, and even more strange that a local town committee would even have 25k.

The Southeast Republican Committee raised $0 and had an opening balance of $0. They got the $25k from LEIBELL FOR SENATE.

Which means Senator Leibell funneled $25k into a Democrat’s campaign coffers. Plus, he can probably donate another $25k directly to evade the contribute limits, since the first batch came structured through the Southeast committee.

This confirms Republicans worst fears, that this race is a Ball v. Stephens/Ball v. Leibell party splitting rematch!

  3. $$$

Degnan will raise over $250,000. in a very short time.

  4. Re:

Yes, when he loses the primary, and gets the same loan from DACC that was given to Ken Harper in 2006.

Degnan will gather much financial support way before any primary. Degnan is a great candidate for the 99th Assembly District and he is going to defeat Greg Ball. Take a close look at what Ball took in and what he owes (and to who) and you will see that his finances are just like the rest of his life – a fraud.

  6. hidemyrealid

Degnan is a Republican running against Ball in the primary. What’s wrong with Liebell helping to fund a Republican? Nothing. Same thing with the Southeast Republican Committee. There is nothing wrong with them backing a REPUBLICAN!!!

Just because the Democracts couldn’t find a Democrat that could defeat Ball doesn’t make Degnan a Democrat. They endorced a candidate they like better than Ball.

The only thing Greg Ball seems to have accomplished in the last two years is creating a groundswell and strange bed fellows in this politcal year with a common cause: defeat Greg Ball and remove him from office.

  7. Disenchanted

You really need to dig deeper into Ball’s filing. There are a lot of interesting things in there. I also keep wondering how somebody who’s never really had a job can lend himself tens of thousands of dollars over and over and over again.

  8. Disenchanted

You’ll also notice that hardly any of Ball’s money came from within his district? Why are so many out of his district interested in him?

  9. Disenchanted

    Simple math:

John Degnan shows a balance of $4,022.47 and owes nothing.

Greg Ball shows a balance of $25,492.57 and owes $77,291.06.

To me, that means he has NEGATIVE $51,798.49.

If it were your personal finances, who would you rather be?

    Folks, it’s smoke and mirrors.

  10. Oh Greggy

Let’s put things in perspective, Greg Ball wants everyone to lay down when he decides he wants to do an “Eliot Spitzer”, Greg Ball thinks he is now the “Steamroller” since his friend Eliot has moved on.

Greg Ball has put together a team of candidates to try and take over the entire Southeast Republican Committee, Greg Ball is even running against Dennis Sant in Dennis Sant’s own election district. Greg Ball does not live in Southeast, you go figure. Greg Ball is trying to bully his way into controlling Southeast politics.

Greg Ball has been trying to create a stronghold in Southeast/Brewster for a few years since he signed on with the company Exceed who he works with, yes, this is the same Exceed company that ships all there jobs oversees and does not believe in keeping jobs on the United States shores. Greg Ball’s ties to companies that outsource American jobs is a terrible thing.

Bullies are all the same, when you fight back, they go crying.

    How a propos…

Bullies are all the same, when you fight back, they go crying.
