Skelos To Golisano: We’re On The Same Page

August

In advance of Tom Golisano’s return to Albany Wednesday (it’s been moved from Tuesday) to release his questionnaire to state legislative candidates, Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, R-Nassau County, wrote him a letter today to cozy up to him and his $5 million he plans to put into the state races.

You can read the letter here.

“We appreciate your call to reform New York State government, especially since the changes you are advocating are ones that we have long advocated for and enthusiastically supported,” Skelos wrote. “Most of your priorities already have passed in our Republican-led Senate, and we welcome your commitment to greater fiscal responsibility, property tax reform, more open and accountable state government, and a more prosperous economy.”

Golisano is pledging through his Responsible New York political action committee to dole out $5 million to candidates who fit with the group’s agenda—which will be clearly once the questionairre is released this week.

There has been wide speculation that Golisano is set to mainly back Democratic candidates in their bid to win control of the state Senate for the first time since 1965.

Golisano says he hasn’t made any decisions, but Skelos isn’t wasting time waiting to find out.

“Without the checks and balances we assure, state government would be totally controlled by Democrats from New York City,” Skelos, of Long Island wrote.

“Keep in mind that a Democrat-controlled Senate would be lead by Malcolm Smith of Queens, Tom Duane from Greenwich Village (Manhattan) and Jeff Klein from the Bronx. The Assembly would be lead by Speaker Sheldon Silver of Manhattan. Thus, it is critical that you join our fight and help us achieve reform.”

Oh that’s rich. Skelos’s new pitch: Don’t vote for Democrats – you’ll get a black, a jew and a gay person in charge!

All of whom will serve to further promote gluttonous unions, more state payroll, higher taxes, and eventual insolvency.

New York Needs a republican government for a little while.

To undo the things that have been done here by too many democrats for too long.

Republicans are usually a lying, do-for-self breed. Not the greatest.

Democrats are welfare-state variety. Also no good.

It seems the only way that we can have normalcy, ESPECIALLY IN NEW YORK STATE, is by tossing them out every now and then and going for the promises from the other team.

It’s time to do that, before New York ends up becoming a socialist commune. We need a good 4 years of a republican governor in here.

“We’re on the same page.” Hey, wasn’t that an old Mark Foley line?

Good one, Walt. Who’d he say that to – Barney Frank?
