Spitzer aide was torn between clearing name, loyalty

August
5

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo tried to convince now-former Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s one-time communications director, Darren Dopp, to speak with Cuomo’s staff about what became known as Troopergate last summer. Documents released today by Albany County District Attorney David Soares show that Cuomo was friends with Sandy Dopp, Darren Dopp’s wife, and frequently called her to talk. In calls last summer, he urged Darren Dopp to speak with his office directly. (Dopp had submitted a written statement only.)

Dopp was conflicted about wanting to clear his name by telling Cuomo about the circumstances behind his release of now-former Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno’s flight records, but not wanting to be disloyal to the governor. Spitzer has denied knowing that records were compiled on Bruno, his lead political rival, in an attempt to discredit the Rensselaer County Republican. Dopp lost his position in state government in connection with the incident.

“I love AC (Cuomo) and hate him, too. He calls and cares but also jazzs (sic) up Sandy so she’s unbearable and he knows just what to say to kill me. The quote I can’t get out of my mind is: ‘You were prepared to take a bullet in the chest for Eliot, but you took one in the back.’” Dopp wrote in his diary.

“I love AC (Cuomo) and hate him too”. Man-crush, much?

I wonder if there is any e-mails regarding the “LCA VOTE” was the “LCA VOTE” part of any cover up? Why did the “LCA” send letters to Soares any others. What was there motive. The members of the “LCA” need to tell their readers why they “VOTED” and who or what was behind it. In light of all that has already come out.
