The $5M Questionnaire

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Albany, Tom Golisano, Uncategorized on Aug 05, 2008

Rochester-area billionaire Tom Golisano is headed to Albany tomorrow to release his questionnaire that will be going out to candidates running for the state Legislature.

The questionnaire will have 35 questions and delves into candidates’ positions on government reform and spending, his aides said.

If Golisano and team likes the answers, the candidate wins a prize: A piece of the $5 million he put into his new political action committee, Responsible New York, to help candidates in the fall.

He’s holding the press conference at the Crowne Plaza at 11 a.m.

The questionnaire will be released to the press and also be put online on the Responsible New York website.

As mentioned yesterday, Golisano’s move is already getting candidates’ jittery. Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, R-Nassau County, wrote to Golisano yesterday telling him that Senate Republicans back many of the same issues Golisano, a three-time gubernatorial candidate, wants.

Our state is crumbling, ever more so under the defective leadership by our infamous “three men in a room”. Citizens have either become apathetic. The few motivated ones are speaking with their feet, and moving to other states.
Costs, driven by lavish mandates, are out of control.

How much out of control? Our electric rates are 60% above the national average. Is our electricity 60% better? 60% more reliable? Of course not… it just that we tax our energy users, and the suppliers to exhaustion.

It’s time to limit the power of the special interests. Thanks to Mr. Golisano, the language that Albany speaks is being used: MONEY.

    Maybe we’ll be heard.

    Dave
