Anti-tax-cap ads coming

August
12

Just four days after the Senate approved a cap on increases in school property taxes,  foes of the idea plan to launch a statewide ad campaign against it.

The Alliance for Quality Education, the group that has been pushing for more state aid for schools for urban schools for years, and the Working Families Party are bankrolling the ads, which will be rolled out later this morning.

The cap, which is supported by Gov. David Paterson, would limit annual school property-tax hikes to 120 percent of inflation or 4 percent, whichever is lower.

The Assembly has no plans to take it up now,  but there has been talk of a compromise that would allow both houses to pass some sort of cap when they return to the Capitol next Tuesday.

Here come the vested interests..the teachers union etc
no such thing as living within a budget for them…they
want theirs regardless of how it affects everyone else

  2. Jiminy Cricket

Precisely. It has been proved, yes proved, over and again that more and more money does nothing to make the public education system better, especially in large cities.

No less an authority than the late Democratic U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan expounded on that truism years ago. There are many studies which demonstrate the same thing—more and more money doesn’t matter.

But the special interests want theirs, and to hell with New York State’s financial crisis. This public education fraud should have been rectified years ago, but the politicians are owned by the special interests, including the big teachers unions. And that means the taxpayers lose.

All local School Boards and Suprintendents with the District Offices should be moved into a single County operation. With the highest State standards.

  4. Special Interests

And don’t forget another Special Interest:

Conservative Ideologues whose special interest is to wreck all government. Everybody who fights for their beliefs are “special interests”...but how about special interest who cares only for their wallet, and they want little or no taxes.

Who cares if the school system fails. Not MY problem. Who cares if we don’t maintain public buildings and assets. Not MY problem. WHo care abouy anything for the public use – if I don’t benefit, cut the budget.

Cut. Cut. Cut. Cut. Cut. Cut. Cut. Cut. Cut. Cut. Cut.
