Greetings from Alaska, via Albany

Posted by: Gerald McKinstry - Posted in Liz Feld, Republican Party, Suzi Oppenheimer, Uncategorized on Aug 14, 2008

New York Republicans are blasting state Senator Suzi Oppenheimer, D-Mamaroneck, in a recent mailing critical of her not being in Albany for the tax cap vote, a measure she does not support. In the faux post card, it shows Oppenheimer relaxing in a chair with a scribble apologizing for missing the recent vote.

Suzi Oppenheimer checked out years ago. She hasn’t done anything in years. This is no surprise.

Got the postcard yesterday. Could not remember if Oppenheimer was Democrat or Republican. Regardless, it was extremely offensive that WE pay her salary and she’s off in Alaska vacationing when her vote was needed HERE. ...

This postcard mailing (from NY Republican State Committee) was STUPENDOUS. It let all of us know what is NOT being done by the folks we vote for. Oppenheimer is taking her job for granted, like a comfortable old shoe. I won’t be voting for Oppenheimer ever again.

    Greetings from Ossining.

    I agree. Greetings from Mamaroneck.

I supported Suzi 24 years ago when she was first elected. I’ve respected her public service, but it really is time for the voters to put her into retirement. She seems to be enjoying life while the rest of us are figuring out how to pay our bills. This year I will be supporting Liz Feld. She has the moxie to get things done up in Albany.

It would be nice if the Journal News could give some context on this. For instance, when was the vote scheduled, and would it have even been possible for Ms. Oppenheimer to return in time from her scheduled vacation. I think the decision to vote was pretty last-minute, IIRC, so if it was impossible for her to return in time for a special session, that would be nice to know. It’d be one of those nice journalistic things that newspapers used to do, instead of reprinting dueling press releases from the various parties.

I got no dog in this fight, but if the mailing is merely politicians playing “gotcha,” it’d be nice to give us the full context so we can make up our own mind.
