Golisano PAC Set To Endorse Mesi, Dollinger

August

Tom Golisano’s political action committee, Responsible New York, is expected to make its first endorsements within a week, throwing its support and money behind two western New York Democratic Senate candidates: Richard Dollinger and “Baby” Joe Mesi.

The endorsements, aides said, come as Golisano seeks to broaden the committee’s reach by donating $1 million to the Democratic Convention’s host committee and setting up meetings with Barack Obama’s advisors next week in Denver.

The endorsements of Dollinger—challenging Rep. Joseph Robach, R-Greece, Monroe County—and Mesi—in a primary against Democrat Michelle Iannello—comes as no surprise because Golisano has been rumored to be supporting those candidates. But he has insisted for weeks that no final decision had been made.

“They are most likely to be two definite ones,” said Golisano aide Laureen Oliver.

The support could boost Mesi, a former boxer, in his primary bout and give Dollinger a boost heading into the fall elections.

Oliver said supporting Dollinger is a no-brainer for the PAC, because Golisano and Oliver have long been supporters of him. Golisano has committed $5 million to the PAC.

“Dollinger, more than anybody, has been a long time supporter of reform,” said Oliver, former Monroe County Independence Party chairwoman.

Robach declined comment, while Dollinger said of the pending endorsement, “no one should doubt Tom Golisano’s commitment to western New York, economic revitalization and reform of government. In the past, I’ve worked with Tom on these issues.”

It appears that Tom Gollisano is engaging in the same
thing that Rudy Giuliani is doing only on the democratic
side…by dolling out campaign funds to deserving democrats
it appears that Gollisano may be angling for the nomination
for governor or even lt governor in the next election.
He has clearly chosen sides and has decided that as an
Independent he had little or no chance of being elected
statewide.but as a democratic financial backer he may
have found the shortest route to the state house..

I’m telling you. A ding dong boxer with brain damage? Wow! Now there’s a guy I want ‘fighting for’ me in the state senate. They aren’t even letting Mesi do personal campaign appearances bc he’s so bad at it. If he can’t read a line or two from the Pigeon script, how the hell is he going to manage in the Senate? Can we at least send someone with a brain – and not a damaged one???

Dollinger a supporter of reform? That’s laughable.

  4. Reform Albany

That’s right Jacob, Rick Dollinger supported a number of measures to reform the dysfunctional ways of Albany—long before the Brennan Center report made it fashionable to do so.

Joe Robach, on the other hand, holds the dubious distinction of being the only legislator to vote for both Sheldon Silver and Joe Bruno as his leader.

I guess Tom has joined the “RICH STUPID ELITE” .

Not sure why Mesi gets critisized for being a boxer. Hes actually very intelligent. A sharp guy who’s getting my vote.

I’d be more impressed by the Democratic campaign for Dolinger if I didn’t receive repeated mailings from the NY State Democratic Senate Campaign Committee trashing Robach but failing to evenb mention Dollinger by name. Is his plan to be the Stealth Candidate?
