ed: I love your “all hat, no cattle” comment. Lyndon Johnson himself would be proud of your political take.

Now: when was the last time a national party won the presidency with TWO senators both representing states EAST of the Mississippi? Or, with even two CANDIDATES who both were elected officials from east of the great dividing line in our country?

(Note: Nixon doesn’t count in this equation, though in 1968 he was “from New York” as he was credited. RMN was always a Californian, and won elective office there three times. Also, 1988 can’t count. GHWB, although a CT Yankee, was by then a Texan, and had won his only previous elective office there.)

It will be Michael Dukakis for VP. With all the aggression shown by the Russians, Obomber figures Dukakis can put on that old Army helmet and pose in that tank again.

That Obomber is a creative fellow. This move will immediately enhance his weak foreign policy credentials.

Many times, with these extensive “lists,” various people are nominally added as a favor to their biographies and obituaries, as in “Congressman Dimwit was, in the early part of the century, seriously considered as a Vice-Presidential candidate for his Party.” It’s like an “Assistant Producer” credit in Hollywood. All hat, no cattle.
