Feld gets environmental endorsement

Posted by: Gerald McKinstry - Posted in 37th Senate District, Liz Feld on Aug 25, 2008

Larchmont Mayor Liz Feld, a Republican running against state Senator Suzi Oppenheimer for the 37th district, recently was endorsed by the New York League of Conservation Voters.

In an announcement, Feld touted her achievements in the village, among them passing a “no idling” law, enforcing a ban on leaf blowers and promoting bicycle use by installing more racks in the village.

She also said she’s overseen the plantings of trees and the rehabilitation of local parks.

Senator Suzi Oppenheimer was also endorsed at the same time, but you conveniently left that out.

While no idling and bike racks are good, how she can be called an environmentalist? In our beautiful local park, she removed over 150 trees. She built a turf field of waste tires, which leak chemicals, right next to a critical wetland estuary. The promised 4 foot fence surrounding the field is now a 10 foot chain link fence. She paved over a gravel drive (good for flood control) and is letting a brand new conservation area (paid for by taxes and grants) get taken over by weeds because she didn’t foresee a need for maintenance.
