Paterson To California: We Know What You’re Going Through

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Uncategorized on Aug 26, 2008

New York feels your pain.

That was the message today from Gov. Paterson as he compared New York’s budget woes to California’s, which isn’t good news for either state, reports Gannett News Service correspondent Erin Kelly.

Both of the big states’ budgets are in a shambles, and they are effectively vying for the dubious title of worst budget crisis.

Paterson, in a speech to the California Democratic delegation at the national convention today, drew applause when he called for the federal government to send more aid to the states.

“Where is our federal government when our states need it?” he said.

Paterson has criticized Washington for not sending more aid back to New York because New York gives $82 billion more to the feds than it receives back—$35 billion more than California, Paterson said in an interview last week.

Stop begging, cut the enormous state payroll, and get something done with this tax cap! The 450 mil you cut doesn’t even cover the increase voted into the budget. A deck chair thrown from the Titanic. Let’s go, Captain. Time for General Quarters.
