ÂÂ ÂÂ Responsible New York, Tom Golisano’s political action committee, has been spending fast and furiously in the lead-up to next week’s primary election, according to the New York Public Interest Research Group. Golisano, the billionaire founder of Paychex Inc., launched the PAC early this summer. Its mission is “to create a political movement to return Albany to its rightful owners,” and the PAC is supporting Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives and Independents from across the state.
ÂÂ ÂÂ Nearly 540 candidate and party committees and PACs filed 11-day pre-primary reports.ÂÂ Sixteen spent more than $100,000 during the reporting period, including Responsible New York, the state Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, Pfizer Inc., New York State United Teachers and the Working Families Party.
ÂÂ ÂÂ Responsible New York spent an average of nearly $36,000 for the 16 days reported in this period, NYPIRG found. Most of the money went to consulting and printing costs. The PACÂÂ paid $110,908 to Miracle Printing in Port Washington and $119,648 on to New York Media Strategies LLC onÂÂ Aug. 22. Golisano paid nearly $140,000 Landen LLC of Niagara Falls for consulting.
