ÂÂ ÂÂ ThereÂÂ is a lot of interest in registering to vote this year, in particular because there is a presidential election November 4. The state Board of Elections has been receiving thousands of mail-in applications, according to officials. When staff members returned to work after the Labor Day long weekend, there were just under 3,500 mail-in registration forms waiting for them.
ÂÂ ÂÂ For those who want to vote in the November election, mail-in applications must be postmarked by October 10 and received by a board of elections by October 15. Prospective voters can register in person at their local board of elections or any state agency that participates in the National Voter Registration Act by October 10. There are exceptions for people whoÂÂ are honorably discharged from the military or who becomeÂÂ naturalized citizens after October 10. In those cases, registration can be done in person at the board of elections until October 24.ÂÂ
ÂÂ ÂÂ Change of address notices from registered votersÂÂ that are received by county boards of elections by October 15 must be processed andÂÂ entered into the records in time for the general election.ÂÂ
