Local musicians record Obama tune

Nineteen singers and musicians from the Hudson Valley have gotten together to produce a song, “Step Up America,” and plan to donate any profits from its $1 download to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

The song was written by Katonah’s Marc Black, and the chorus includes other town residents Jean Bratman, Georgie Kronfeld and Nick Petrie, Black said in an email.

On the Web page, Black writes, “I’ve been interested in the Obama candidacy from the start.  And when I heard his speech on race, I knew I wanted to help. A few weeks later, I heard Barack mention the words, ‘step up’, and a song started rolling around my head.

“Feels like sunshine burn through the fog today, reveals us standing, ready to say…I will not let my Country just slip away.  It’s time to step up.  Step Up, America.”

I recorded the song several ways and finally settled on an Americana style with a large group vocal at the end.  The track features the group of nineteen musicians who gladly donated their time and talent.”
It’s available for a listen and as a download here.
