Legislative Leaders: We’ll Come To Albany If Necessary

September
15

State legislative leaders said today that they are ready to return to Albany to cut more of the state budget if needed.

It’s a different tone than lawmakers had a few months ago when some of them, including Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, scoffed at the notion that the state’s revenues are in worse than expected shape.

Of course, this time Paterson didn’t take a shot at them by saying they would have to come back and end their vacations.

Silver (far right) had a different stance today, saying in a statement “I have spoken to Gov. Paterson and I and my Assembly colleagues stand ready to assist in any way we can. I have every confidence that we will weather this situation with the same determination and resourcefulness that we have weathered adversity in the past.”

A spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (far left) said, “We’ll continue to monitor the fiscal situation and we will work with Governor Paterson and the Assembly and do what is appropriate and necessary to keep the budget in balance.”

  1. A Dud

Why dopes Silver have a different toon. Maybe some of his Democrat Assemblymembers have strong challengers.

  2. get it right the first time

Why can’t they get it right the first time. How many more times will they go back into session to finely get the budget right?

“To keep the budget in balance?” Did he actually say “to keep the budget in balance?” And did Silver say: “We’ll come back, if necessary?” If necessary? Oh, Captain, my captain. This is our leadership. Rig the lifeboats.
