Obama On McCain’s Foreign Vehicles

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Barack Obama, John McCain on Sep 23, 2008

Barack Obama’s new ad calls out John McCain for saying he bought American cars “literally all my life,” but cites a Newsweek story that McCain has 13 cars, including several foreign made.

Obama, the article says, has one: 2008 Ford Escape hybrid.

Where’s the ad running? The battleground of Michigan, of course.

SO THREE OF THIRTEEN ARE FOREIGN AT PRESENT…
THAT DOES NOT NEGATE THE STATEMENT THAT “I BOUGHT
AMERICAN VIRTUALLY ALL MY LIFE”...HOW MANY CARS
HAS HE BOUGHT OVER HIS LIFETIME..AND WHAT WERE
THE MFG..THEN WE CAN TALK…AND EVEN ON THIS ISSUE
AS STATED IN THE ADD MCCAIN ALMOST
80% OF THE CARS OWNED BY HIM NOW ARE IN FACT
MADE IN AMERICA…CAN’T REALLY SAY THAT ABOUT MOST
PEOPLE IN WESTCHESETER CAN WE…BMW’S AUDI’S
LEXUS, MERCEDES NISSANS HONDAS ..NOT TOO MANY
AMERICAN VEHICLES AMONG OUR DEMOCRATIC FRIENDS
    ARE THERE?

Most everyone would prefer to purchase American if the big manufacturers had built reliable, efficient, affordable autos years ago when foreign manufacturers started to corner the market. They still haven’t learned much. There’s good reason that Ford and GM are struggling to stay alive. If your mother were a lawyer and handed out lousy legal advice and charged you premium prices, you’d hire a stranger.

ed the point is not that the auto industry failed
just as the banking system did but that the ad is wrong
in that the premise of the attack is that mccain does
not buy american cars..if 80% of the cars bought
in america were american made as john mccain has done
    (actuall7 77%) the auto industry wouldn’t have a problem
so the ad is misleading and inaccurate

  4. ed1

Agreed. That he has ANY contemporary American cars speaks to his patriotism, let alone 80%. It’s hard to get your kids to drive a domestic auto even if you agree to purchase it for them.

  5. the consultant

    your telling me!!!!

  6. back to the issues

Not to mention those natty British sports cars we see speeding around Westchester… Would the consultant know anything about that???

This is a stupid commercial. I suppose this plays in Michigan but it won’t play with most other voters. We’re going to criticize someone for driving a Honda, Volkswagen or Lexus???

    Give me a break!

    Bond, James Bond.

  8. Jiminy Cricket

It’s a very dumb ad. And how many of those cars are actually Cindy McCain’s?

Where is the YouTube posting of Biden totally blowing it about FDR talking on TV about the stock market crash of ‘29? He told that story to CBS News.

    1. Herbert Hoover was president then.

    2. TV was not commecially available then.

Biden also got caught (like Hillary) making false claims about a helicopter landing, this time in Afghanistan.

  9. the consultant

Jiminy..Biden obviously meant the famous fireside chats
but clearly he once again inserted his foot in his
mouth up to his knee..He also by the by criticized the
Obama ad running against mccain claiming that because
John does not use a computer..(he can’t raise his arms
above his shoulders) he is “out of touch”

AND TO MI5. Hey every kid is entitled to one toy…
and one toy only….but at 8 mpg I borrow my wifes
Murano…maybe on I 95 in fla I will get some use
out of it…I consider it a gift from my deceased
father who himself drove..a Daimler with the steering
wheel on the wrong side…LOOK SWEEDISH, DRESS BRITISH
    THINK YIDDISH”

  10. ed1

McCain must be VERY short if he has to reach above his shoulders to use a computer. At his age, he can’t grow, but might consider a different chair.

  11. the consultant

    funny…very funny…but you know what I mean…his both
arms were broken and not set at the Hanoi Hilton while
Bush was flying fighter jets into San Antonio..so maintaining a position in front of a computer has to
be painful….and not a very good place to attack
him because I know there are lots of 72 year olds
who don’t know sh…t about using a computer

  12. ed1

When you’re the President, you hire your computer nerds. Vince Lombardi at Green Bay couldn’t block a nose tackle, but he sure did gather the right people around him who could. And he saw to it that it was done, and done well.

  13. the consultant

you are quite correct..and thats why McCain’s knowledge
of economics is irrelevant…bush is irrelevant in this
crisis..King Henry is running the show…and he is
a conservative …..so if McCain has the right people
at treasury..maybe he keeps paulson…we are fine

  14. Jiminy Cricket

Ed…Not quite. Lombardi himself was one of the famous “Seven Blocks of Granite” when he went to Fordham, which is also where he met Wellington Mara.

But could he still do it when he coached Green Bay? No, of course not. But he still knew how to do it, and how to coach it, too.

  15. ed1

Yes. Fordham, in Lombardi’s day, and before, was a national power, as were almost ALL the NY colleges and Universities especially in basketball.
