Siena Poll On Senate Races

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Siena Poll on Sep 24, 2008

Democrats are running strong in two swing seats for the state Senate, while two Republican incumbents hold leads against their foes, a Siena College poll released this morning shows.

In the closely watched Rochester race, state Sen. Joseph Robach, Greece, holds a 49 percent to 38 percent lead over Democratic rival Richard Dollinger, the Siena poll found.

While Robach gets the support of 78 percent of Republicans and one third of Democrats, Dollinger has the support of 57 percent of Democrats and 11 percent of Republicans, Siena said.

But in a district that’s heavily Democratic, the poll shows that Dollinger still has a way to go to sway voters against the popular Robach, who first won election to the seat in 2002.

The poll found that Robach leads among independent voters 46 percent to 34 percent, while Dollinger has a 10-point lead in the Democratic parts of the districts—Rochester and Brighton—Robach has a 64 percent to 26 percent lead in Greece and Parma.

“Robach enters the final six weeks of the campaign in this heavily Democratic district in a strong position,” said Siena Poll spokesman Steve Greenberg. “He has a double-digit lead, he is popular and viewed as stronger on all the issues.”

The Robach-Dollinger race is one of the key contests as Republicans seek to maintain control of the state Senate. The GOP currently has a 31-29 seat edge.

The Siena Poll, the first statewide poll in memory that polled individual legislative seats, surveyed the six most heavily contested races in the state.

The polls were conducted from Sept. 11-17, and each had about a 4.9 percentage point margin of error. About 400 voters were polled in each district.

In a western New York race that stretches across Erie and Genesee counties, Democrat Joseph Mesi holds a slim 40 percent to 38 percent lead over Republican Michael Ranzenhofer, the poll found.

The poll found that on Long Island, Republican Sen. Cesar Trunzo holds a 46 percent to 40 percent lead over Democrat Brian Foley, and Democratic Sen. Craig Johnson holds a large 49 percent to 25 percent lead over Republican Barbara Donno.

In Queens, Republican incumbent Serph Maltese is tied with Democrat Joseph Addabbo, Jr., each with 42 percent of the vote in the poll.

In a North Country race, Democrat Darrel Aubertine – who won the seat in a special election in February – has a 51 percent to 31 percent lead over Republican David Renzi.

Right. Highest in the entire country. Not only is Albany at fault, but Andy Spano and his Democratic County legislators need to be held resposible for their part in this very bad situation.

There is a very troubling article about Obama, Percy Sutton and some undesirable elements in http://www.newsmax.com.

Written by Kenneth Timmerman, the article offers what is at least a plausible explanation for why Obama has been so secretive and unwilling to release data about his Harvard student loans. If this article is true, it’s a big problem for Obama.

Troubling, indeed. Funny how the Apollo crowd accepts as gospel everything Sutton, Dinkins, (who filed no taxes for four years) and the rest of them say except when they (on the rare occasion) tell it like it is, or was.

When someone, Obama in this instance, tries to hide something, it’s safe to assume there is a reason for it. And that reason probably isn’t a good one.

That article suggests there could be a big fire behind the smoke.

On the Wall St. crisis, the NY Sun did a very good editorial yesterday expsosing Schumer for what he is. It is called “Schumer’s Straddle.” http://www.nysun.com.
