Main Street, not Wall Street

September
25

Local residents are planning demonstrations in Putnam and Rockland today to oppose the $700 billion bailout plan for Wall Street backed by President Bush.

A protest was held yesterday in White Plains at U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey’s office.

Putnam residents plan to gather today at 5 p.m. at the County Courthouse in Carmel at the north end of Lake Gleneida, where Rt. 52 meets Rt. 301.

Judy Allen of Putnam Valley said she’d bring homemade signs reading “No to $700 billion giveaway,” and “I can’t afford $700,000 billion and neither can my kids.”

Demonstrators in Nyack plan to gather at Memorial Park through the day.
