No Bloomberg For Governor In 2010

October
2

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that if it wasn’t apparent before, it is now: He has no plans to run for governor in 2010.

Because Bloomberg wants to run for a third term in 2009, if successful, it would obviously rule out any plan to run for governor, presumably against Democratic Gov. David Paterson.

The two were together today in Manhattan to provide an update on the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site.

Bloomberg threw his support behind Paterson, who took office in March.

“I plan to see Governor Paterson still in office after my third term carrying the state to even greater times than it has seen in the past,” Bloomberg said.

“I think Gov. Paterson, in six months, he has done an amazing amount. It’s been a lot of fun to work with him. He has good common sense, he is always willing to be there when you need him.’

Paterson, meanwhile, said he support Bloomberg’s efforts for a third term, and said “I never thought he was running for governor of this state” because Paterson said Bloomberg told him repeatedly he had no plans to do so.

“I was never a fan of term limits,” Paterson continued. “So I’m delighted that he’s seeking a third term because I think if an elected official is in government and wants to seek a third term they should go right ahead and do that.”
