Well, I'm talking, of course, of the money-movers, the "street guys," money managers, (the Wall St. people,) not Joe SIx-Pack. These guys are way ahead of the curve as to how the market responds to rumor and projection, and they know that a 35-40% capital gains rate impedes capital investment and input, further restricting the possibility of a market recovery. Until they know what will happen (and who will be elected) they will not invest and gamble with big dollars to be bullied into sharing the possible gains, and forced to stand alone with the probable losses. Take this to the bank, if you can find one still in earnest operation.

Obama, who is the acknowledged leader in this race, has vowed to raise the long term capital gains tax to 35% or more. And people wonder why the market is sinking, despite all the "bail-out" money and other imposed remedies? The "street." or what's left of it, has no confidence in this scenario. Two plus two, folks.

its always been class warfare in this country...those
who think they deserve more have always been critical
of those who earn more through ownership or investment
its a basic jelousy of the wealthy by those who are not
but its now going to become not only jelousy but a
concerted effort to redistribute income and wealth..
however I have been preparing for this for some time
the handwriting was on the wall...people were living
way above their means and figured that the small
number of high end taxpayers who pay the lion share
of the taxes would eventually pick up the tab..thats
why barney and raines and clinton all had no problem
encouraging people who could not afford to buy a home
to do just that...there is no shame in renting...if
thats what you can afford....in fact there are many
benefits..including NOT TAKING ANY RISK...however
guys like barney frank thought that in their infinite
wisdom...housing ownership was a right..one that you
didn't necessarily have to earn..so just sign on the
dotted line ..nothing down...no verifiable income
a mortgage that you afford for one or two years before
it trippled..etc...so we in essence got what we deserved
a total crippling of the credit markets...based on the
rotten loans that underpinned the markets...sure there
were greedy mortgage lenders..and bankers..and investment
bankers who created these exotic instruments but in the
end ..if the policy of the government had been to only
permit lending to those whose credit, income and assets
justified the loan none of this would have ever happened
thank you liberal democrats for literally undermining
the entire financial underpinnings of the world.
Having said all that..Sarah Palin will never be the
president

Get ready for your dog taxes to go up. And for your golf club to become non-deductible regardless of whom you entertain for business purposes. And for your tax money to fund Acorn and the Apollo Theater rapathon. And for Charles Barron to be appointed to the Supreme Court. And to listen for at least four years, maybe eight, to how bad a person you are to have prospered regardless of the tons of dollars you've probably contributed to keep the country running when more than 40% of the people in this nation who will loudly criticize you, pay no taxes whatsoever.

I didn't see that new post by the Consultant. So you're going to "do what you think is best for the country," are you?

Are you going to imitate Nathan Hale?

Palin is also treated badly by the "moderate Republican" Consultant, who apparently also doesn't know that Maureen Dowd is a very liberal columnist. But Lowry isn't, and neither is Parker. And so it goes. But what is the point?

If the Consultant really wants to see McCain elected, and whether or not he wants that to happen is questionable at best, he ought to focus on other important things relating to Camp Biden and Camp Obama. The Consultant, for whatever reason -- I could but won't guess why -- gives them an EZ Pass.

Good point about the Mormons, Ian.

Jews for Jesus and the statement made in the Wassila
CHurch is Sarah's personal business unless she becomes
a candidate for Vice President and therefore a possible
president..if Obama should have walked out on his
paster when he gave his god da-n america speech
then sarah should have walked out when the speaker
suggested that somehow the palistinians were gods
punishment to Israel..none of the crap is acceptable
I have supported every national republican
candidate since 1964..and as the party got progressively
more religiously oriented relying on the evangelical
doctrinaire rantings and the very far right wing
neocon ideology, my general feeling is that the
party was making itself less and less attractive
to most americans...this years election is about
building a consensus..it will be decided not by
the base but by the middle moderates of both
parties and independents...I bought into reagan
bush 41 and bush 43..I am completely disappointed
John MCain would have been fine ANY OTHER CHOICE
FOR VP WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE..BUT NOT SARA PALIN
SORRY...I HAVE TO DO WHAT I THINK IS BEST FOR THE
COUNTRY...AND I FULLY INTEND TO

Consultant, you still didn't answer my October 7th, 2008 at 8:06 pm post. 1. Can you provide the link to the Palin allegation you make and 2. Why are you okay with candidates from the Mormon religion that actively seek converts and not evangelical religions that do likewise.

As for Palin, she wasn't my pick either. But McCain felt he had to go with someone who could recharge his lackluster campaign and went with her for better or worse. That said, you and Tim have wrote conflicting posts. One minute, she is a help and other moments you seem to take every allegation at face value and regurgitate every ridiculous slur. Regardless of the merits of her being VP (a job which traditionally does very litte) she has been treated very badily by the press.

how about maureen dowd...are they all left wing..rich lowry
and kathleen parker are certainly not ...neither is george
will...the problem MCain is having is that moderate republicans like me are not impressed with his VP choice
I will give you that the choice excites the base....of
which I am not a part..However moderates like me have voted
for the winner each time with minor exception since
1968..nixon...not carter..reagan..bush, not clinton
the first time..bush bush..so McCain cannot win without
me..and those of like mind..we are the swing voters
the rush makes fun of...in ohio, virginia, michigan,
missouri, and florida..we come from all backrounds
and have one thing in common we are not ideologues
we want to do whats best for the nation and in this
case what is best for the meltdown..we also want
our presidential candidates to pick running mates of
substance

Tom Friedman? There you go again. Tom Friedman is a left-wing columnist for the NY Times. Why not quote Benny Friedman? Benny usually had a good game plan and didn't throw any bull, either.

Yup sometimes when the powers that be serve up a person
like sarah palin..you just have to say no...along with
george will, kathleen parker, peggy noonan, david brooks
tom friedman...and anyone else who takes a good look
at what she says, how she says it, and the possiblity
that someone so out of the mainstream could be president

But, my lifelong Republican self speaking, I am hoping for a long life for John McCain, should he win, because the controlling, anti-intellectual, and vindictive Ms. Palin, while attractive, scares the heck out of me. As it should you. Sarah Palin gives pause. We LIKE her, but she isn't noble or superb enough to be a heartbeat away. Sorry to say.

Four years of a dopey Democrat administration, and we get the refreshing Mitt Romney, for whom I was a delegate this year. I like him a lot, and I admired his father.

Oh well. Hope you weren't in equities the past month. Or week. >

The Consultant now seems to be getting his allegations from the far left blogs. Documentation, please. Facts, please.
and how about context, please.

You should vote for Obama, Consultant. Your disdain of Palin is known by everyone who reads this blog. You are a very dubious Republican. You don't have to cheer for Palin, but as a so-called McCain backer, you sure go about it in a way that is destructive to Senator McCain.

But, where is your post assailing Barney Frank for playing the race card today re: Republican critcism of the way the Dems used and abused Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? Yep, ol' Barney dealt the race card from the bottom of the deck. Doesn't that offend you?

And where is your post about the fact that ACORN in Nevada was raided today re: voter fraud, etc.? You know ACORN...tied tightly to Obama for years. And now.

Can you please give us the link to the story where the pastor of Palin's church publicly preaches the need to convert Jews to Christianity. Even assuming he did(which I think is false) unless he believed in forceful conversion, this hardly disqualifies Palin as VP anymore than the Mormon policy on actively seeking converts disqualifies Romney. Moreover, most Christian denominations preach that the way to get to heaven is believing Jesus Christ just as Jewish people believe they are the chosen people. Obviously, if followers didn't believe that, then they would find a different religion or none at all.

Given that the Consultant supported Romney for VP, I fail to see the distinction and have trouble fathoming why he has no problem with Romney but does with Palin. Unlike Mormanism (which I have no problem with either), Palin's church doesn't have mandatory missions to seek converts.

I have no problem with anyone trying to change my religion as long as they take no for an answer and are not annoying about i.e. Jehovah's witnesses.

jim I would like you to explain the following:
Governor Palin is a participating member of The Wasilla Bible Church whose pastor publicly preaches the need to convert Jews to Christianity. More specifically, Governor Palin was in attendance when the visiting executive director of Jews for Jesus preached that Palestinian terrorism which murders and maims Israeli civilians is God's punishment of the Jews for not accepting Jesus. Governor Palin's pastor followed this sermon with a collection for Jews for Jesus and prayed that God would make their work of bringing Jews to Jesus successful.

although a secular jew I have grave reservations
about anyone whose mission is to change anyone
elses religions..

Kieran ran her for the senate because he thought there would
be plenty of money that an anti hillary run would produce.which is fine..but first you need to send your candidate to the republican senate school to get up to speed on the issues. Jeanine was never suited for the
senate run...not her field of expertise...law enforcement
was but it didn't seem to matter to kieran..my answer
to the poster was to correct the misimpression that anything
that pirro did was something i was involved in..not true
and hasn't been for 25 years when she first ran for family
court...people seem to be obsessed with jeanine even
though now she is an actor on a reality show..
even last week sam zherka and richard blassberg picketed
CW11..because of the jeffrey descovic case..and other
issues they STILL HAVE with her..whats intersting about
that group is they skewer jeanine for not allowing
the DNA review for Descovic but they give no credit
to DI FIORE for allowing it and his ultimate release
thats because they are interested in controlling the
DA's office through their proxy tony castro

As a veteran - it was 'refreshing' for JOHN'the-old-fool'McCAIN to finally admit that he 'rolled-over' for the NVIETS when he was a prisoner of war. Something about a guy who would outright LIE about how his parents met at Selma and the etymology of his name HUSSEIN being of Hebraic origin - only to get 'JEWISH' sympathy/votes - brings his overall claims into greater skepticism/scrutiny!!!
