Siena Poll Reactions

The campaign for Republican candidate Liz Feld knocked the Siena poll as being flawed, saying their own internal polls have the race closer against Democratic Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer.
Feld’s problem: 60 percent of voters have no opinion of her, Obama has a huge lead in the district, and Oppenheimer polls better on every issue and has a two-to-one lead among independent voters, the poll found.
“With due respect to Siena students, these numbers are completely out of line with our information about the race,” said Feld spokesman William O’Reilly.
“Any 25-year incumbent whose constituents pay the highest taxes in America and get the least school funding in return is running against time.”
Austin Shafran, spokesman for the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, said â€Å“Our candidates are running strong and remain in position to retake the majority come November. While regular families are struggling to pay their bills, the Republicans have spent millions trying to catch us, but just like in Albany, they’re spending a lot without getting results.”
Democratic candidate David Nachbar, who is down 41 points to Sen. James Alesi, R-Perinton, Monroe County, said Alesi would be ill advised to take the rest of October off.
“We never expected this fight to be easy,” said Nachbar spokesman Mike Williams. “When a political outsider runs against a career politician who is backed by special interests, it will always be an uphill battle. ”

The main problem for Nachbar, the poll shows: 75 percent of voters don’t know who he is and have no opinion of him. Moreover, Barack Obama has an 11-point lead in the 55th District and voters want Democrats to control the Senate—yet they are still backing their hometown senator in Alesi, the poll found.
“The people of New York want property tax relief, a strong, vibrant economy that creates new jobs, and a responsible, accountable government,” said Republican Senate Campaign spokesman Joe Conway. “That’s what our candidates are campaigning on and what our candidates will deliver, and that’s why we’re going to pick up seats on Election Day.”

Can’t be right. The whole county is in tax revolt. This race has to be closer.
the race is definitely closer…people are not focusing
on state races.they are overwhelmed with their own
personal economic trivails..particularly in that
district..once they understand the issues and Feld’s
name identification increases.the whole race should change
4 weeks to go until the big day. Feld will win this thing, people will see that Suzi is as useless as the Mets in September!!!
Feld is going to eat it. She is trying to run to the Left of a Democrat and that never works, even against a backbencher like Oppenheimer.
She is a true fiscal conservative. Exactly what we need to get the state back on track. I’d rather have someone like Liz that may be more moderate on the social issues than a senator that has retired in place. Democrat or Republican. We have a choice to elect someone who will at least get something done! Lets look at the big picture here folks!
Since the Republican/ Conservatives have been in charge since 1938 I don’t see how adding another Republican senator would change much.
When the Senate majority is Democratic, Suzi Oppenheimer will be head of the Education Committee and that will help Westchester with our tax burden and schools more than a freshman tool of the current, stagnant NY Senate. You guys are just desperate cause you can’t afford to lose any more seats.
Oppenheimer is respected on both sides of the aisle, has put passing legislation ahead of ego and is genuinely a nice person (unlike Feld) who cares about her district.
All of Felds’s robo calls and mailers can’t buy the respect Suzi Oppenheimer has from her supporters.
Suzi is up for chair of the all important education committee—She is and always has been a champion of women’s and chilren’s issues. We need Suzi’s experience in the senate! Return her to Albany and let’s get a Democratic majority and accompish our goals !
Education Committee? They can tax us to death, both State and local by another ten trillion and they’ll accomplish nothing more than could be accomplished in a one-room schoolhouse with internet hook-up.
Oppenheimer is a slug. Her only real accomplsihment in the Senate has been to keep her seat warm by sitting on it.
Suzi Oppenheimer is calling for cuts, not 4% caps that Liz Feld is asking for.
In Liz Feld’s term of office as Mayor of Larchmont, she increased the property taxes 9.5% the last two years, stopped sharing a Treasurer with the Town of Mamaroneck tripling the cost of treasurer to $150,000, increased paid firefighter salaries to where Larchmont is spending $400,000 more on paid firefighter salaries than the Town of Mamaroneck Fire District, and lost the entire volunteer firefighter department to the Town of Mamaroneck which protects twice the people and five times the space. Feld refused to listen to or impliment plans to consolidate the Larchmont and Marmaroneck Fire Districts saving taxpayers tax increases.
She installed a rubber crumb artificial turf field over DEP and residents objections cutting down 60 trees to do so in an environmentally sensitive area. Feld is a bully who is insensitive to anyone’s needs but her own.
I trust Suzi Oppenheimer to represent us in this important job of State Senator.
Bad year for elephants. While you may be registering anger from conservatives about their taxes, they’ve NEVER been happy with their taxes. They don’t like/want government.
The vast majority of “people” in Suzi’s District want Suzi, and want Democrats, unlike you handful of bloggers. She will crush Liz—- crush her good. And then you’ll whine one about people have been duped, when in fact, it’s the Republi-clones who have duped America these 8 years. TIME’S UP!
The only reason I can see to vote for Liz Feld in this election is so that we can get rid of her here in Larchmont! She has been nothing but a disappointment- non-partisan ticket my __.
