Oppenheimer responds to handicap pass issue

October
20

Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer, D-Mamaroneck, released a statement in response to the state GOP’s mailer attacking her husband for using a handicapped parking pass when he doesn’t need it.

“The voters of Westchester are not fooled by Liz Feld’s negative campaign,” Oppenheimer spokesman Austin Shafran said. “The recent Sienna poll showed that voters are clearly rejecting Feld’s inaccurate, negative attack advertisements and mailings. Suzi’s strong standing of record and service has not been undercut by the expensive media campaign being waged by the Republicans.”

Feld is the Republican challenger against Oppenheimer in a strongly Democratic district. The poll Shafran is referring to was released earlier this month and has Oppenheimer ahead 61-24 percent.

Maybe Senator Oppenheimer should worry about solving real issues for her constituents rather than spending taxpayer funded mailings about not parking in handicap spots. She is a typical “Do as I say, not as I do” politician.

She just lost my vote. Just outrageous.

that is not a response to the handicapp issue..suzi’s
campaign knew it was an issue so they sent out a mailing
trying to warn people of abusing handicapp permits
to detract from the fact that was exactly what her husband
did…their response is garbage and meaningless

uhhh… I have a hard time believe that anon and the consultant would vote for Suzi ever. You guys are on Liz’s team, right? Who else would have to scrape the bottom of the barrel for this oh-so-important issue?

How bout the fact that Liz and her Neocon buddies cooked up a fake postcard and was shut down by the Fair Campaign Practices Committee for impersonating Senator Oppenheimer?

Or that she is in negotiations with the Police in Larchmont and SURPRISE!! The PBA is endorsing her. Or how about the paid firefighters she gave $35,000 bonuses to- each! What a surprise– they endorsed her, too. I guess she’s following the lead of the Republicans in the Assembly and buying endorsements.

Handicap spaces are supposed to be for people with handicaps. This is really bad. And not a peep out of Oppenheimer about this. She needs to say something or else people are going to assume the worst. Very bad.

She never answered the accusation. However, Feld’s team is hanging its hat on uninteresting and creaky hat rack. They’re trying to say something about hypocrisy and the abuse of privilege, and they should say it.

Suzi must be the biggest idiot going. Why wouldn’t Liz Feld attack on this issue. Suzi showed utter disregard for her disabled constituents and Liz called her out on it. Why is it that when a politican calls out another politican for being unethical it is called negative campaigning? This is all Suzi’s doing. The bottom line is here is that Suzi is giving Mayor Feld ammo to shoot at her. Why is it that people these days cannot be accountable for their actions? This isn’t dirty politics, it is one person making another accountable for her actions. The bottom line is instead of calling the Feld campaign dirty she should apologize and ask for forgivness. Why can’t people be accoutable for their actions any more, this is so fustrating. I want someone in Albany who will call someone out when they are wrong and thats what Liz is doing. I hope when she is in Albany she will call out not only Dems but Republicans as well to get things done. It seems that she is off to a pretty good start. I am so sick of Suzi Oppenheimer for not having a spine. What a COWARD she is! If she can’t stand up for herself and be accountable how is she going to stand up for Westchester and be accountable for Westchester?

I actually called the Senator to explain this. She applied for the pass for her husband in anticipation of a long recovery after knee replacement surgery. He wound up never using it but absentmindedly, never took it out of the car, despite her nagging. She (and her husband) says it was “stupid” to not remove the pass. Oppenheimer regrets not going in there and ripping it out herself. I believe that he never took advantage of the pass, but I do agree it was a stupid error. To blame the senator is a little over the top. Didn’t your spouse ever do anything dumb, even after nagging them about it?
