Panel seeking comments on property taxes

October
20

The state Commission on Property Tax Relief will hold a hearing at the Yonkers Riverfront Library Auditorium, One Larkin Plaza,  at 2:00 Wednesday.  A live webcast of the hearing will be made available from the Commission’s Web site.

The commission has been holding hearings around the state to get input on its preliminary recommendations that the state should restrict the growth of school property taxes to 4 percent a year, cap property taxes based on a homeowner’s ability to pay, and reduce the number of state-mandated programs. The panel’s final report is due in December.

On Wednesday, the comission is inviting testimony on special education, mandate relief for school districts, the impact of property taxes on the Big Four school districts (Yonkers, Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse), and boards of cooperative educational services. Scheduled speakers will go first, followed by a public-comment period.

The panel is holding hearings in the coming weeks in Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse.

Hearings? what in holy hell do they THINK the people are going to say? They have spoken, and everyone knows it. There has been poll after poll released on this issue. Curtail the mandates. Get a cap set. Circuit break for the elderly. As is typical, they take their traveling circus across the state to find out what everyone already knows.
